The rectangular frame is painted a matte blue-grey, softening the areas of patina, and accented with ivory trim. Neoclassical foliate design seen in the molding of the frame is a subtle complement to the crest above, rounding out the corners. The original mercury glass plate has developed beautiful, oxidized spots of foxing throughout and areas of loss around the upper edges which only enhance its antique character. French 19th Century Petite Neoclassical Trumeau

Fabulous Neoclassical inspired trumeau mirror from 19th century France with stylized motifs in parcel gilt. In the center of the frieze are two gilded, cherub-like figures wearing only swags of carefully draped fabric flanking a pedestal that lifts what appears to be an accumulation of flowers. Note that the character to the right side has lost its face and the void is filled with paint in an attempt to obscure that fact. The pair are flanked by lyres and vertically oriented laurel branches emanating from the top of the fluted columns to the left and right of the original mirror glass like a tabernacle-style mirror. The wood backing has been painted a dusky shade of blue–almost Prussian–that makes a nice complement to the gilt and the dark haze of foxing across the reflection.
