Belgian vintage set of thirty-eight (38) stemware glasses in two sizes: a short capacity for cordials or sherry (18 pieces), and the larger martini glass (20 pieces). The conical vessels are etched with a band of Greek Key pattern, over which small fleur de lis have been engraved intermittently as a subtle reference to French monarchy and the Bourbon lineage. Despite their seemingly fragile appearance, the hexagonal stems have a pleasant weight from the quality of the crystal and only one glass has a tiny chip on the rim. English Early 20th Century Bloomsbury Folding Screen

English, early 20th century hand-painted folding screen in the style of the Bloomsbury Group, circa 1910-1930. This collective of artists, authors, and other intellectuals were sometimes infamous but very prolific in their output, even opening up a storefront named Omega Workshops where this incredible screen may have been purchased. Its four identical panels–all handpainted–replicate the same stylized images of foliate, figural, and Neoclassical themes that layer into an arresting tableau of diverse references that beg for a narrative to be strung together. The color palette features a teal border with fine, black foliate pattern dotted at the corners with a yellow buttercup; a pale yellow background over which thin foliate vines have been painted; a cartouche at the top filled with a dagger-carrying female figure; additional bust figures at the midsection, and urns with anthemion motif anchoring the lower third. The panels can be positioned to use as a self-supporting room divider or privacy screen, even mounted to the wall as a mural; the reverse side does show evidence of prior water damage and discoloration. Flashes of blue and red pigment (or perhaps the red bole under the gilding) are visible in certain areas to give further dimension and vitality to this sculptural work. Geometric elements distinguish the capital and base from the smooth roundness of the columnar shaft. By the artist’s hand and tools the brecciated white stone with gray veining has been shaped to subtle rings around the circumference as the pillar widens from the top to the base. The abacus (the flat top surface) is shaped as a square with chamfered corners, echoed below by the octagonal plinth. Also called a vestiaire, this tall coat & hat rack is made out of solid oak washed in weathered layers of slate-tone paints, arranged in a paneled design resembling a door. A multitude of brass hooks surround the beveled mirror plate which is original, its reflection just beginning to show a speckled haze of foxing. Below the mirror is a small shelf; the perfect drop-area console for keys and other personal effects, with a brass railing farther down that functions as a holder for walking sticks and umbrellas in a removable drip tray.
