Set of Four French 19th Century Art Nouveau-Style Gilt-Brass Sconces
$4,200.00
Dimensions: 11-7/8″H x 7″W x 7-3/4″D
This magnificent set of four gilt-brass espagnolette sconces, c. 1890, were found in France and are a fine example of the Art Nouveau style. The espagnolette, a female mask with a ruff of feathers around the head and under the chin was a popular motif in 18th century French decor, particularly during the Régence period. The Art Nouveau period brought a variation of the espagnolette head which features a swag of drapery replacing the ruff under the chin, as seen here. Each of these sconces are mounted on an olive-green velvet lined wooden panel and framed in gilt brass. They have recently been rewired for the US according to UL standards.
