Portuguese 19th Century Carved Stone Pedestal Sink
$4,995.0035.50"H x 25.88"W x 21.50"D
Dimensions: 35 ½” H x 25 ⅞” W x 21 ½” D
A Classical pedestal sink from Portugal, 19th century, carved from stone in the form of a scallop shell as if designed by the artist Botticelli himself to draw Venus from the sea. The sink basin is now wonderfully patinated in such a depth of texture color that accentuates the delicate curves of the shell. There are three holes and the back for a faucet and the columnar base is also notched along the back to run the plumbing. This will make a stunning feature of any garden or bathroom. Portuguese 18th Century Hand-carved Marble Mortar
$1,650.009.63"H x 15.75"W x 11.88"D
Dimensions: 9 ⅝” H x 15 ¾” W x 11 ⅞” D
A Portuguese 18th century oversized stone mortar & pestle once used to grind herbs, grains, and spices for cooking and medicine. The vessel is hand-chiseled from one piece of stone characterized by patchy red and orange minerals, shaped with four, angular handles that make it (a little) easier to use and carry. This antique culinary tool becomes a sculptural feature for an interior or patio, used as a bowl or artifact of culinary history. Be sure to view the detailed images to see the current condition.

Portuguese 18th Century Carved Stone Column
$6,500.0039.50"H x 16"W x 15.25"D
Dimensions: 39 ½” H x 16” W x 15 ¼” D
A fabulous 18th century, or earlier, carved stone column from Portugal, best described as Gothic or Romanesque in style, using the familiar acanthus motif around the capital. By the artist’s hand and tools the hard stone has been shaped to incredible depth within the folds of the leaves as they spread across the circumference. The abacus (the flat top surface) is rather irregular in shape either by time or extraction from the original architecture. Today it would make an extraordinary pedestal to uplift a garden urn or vase–inside or for the patio. The radiant column capital is accented with rope or cord elements that drape onto the shaft with small leaves. Square plinth base is similarly affected as the top in areas of loss and discoloration, which has been gently cleaned to appreciate the natural color and textures of the stone. Please view the detailed images to see the current condition of this dramatic pedestal.
French Vintage Reproduction Parthenon Frieze Panel
$5,800.0042.25"H x 59.38"W x 4"D
Dimensions: 42 ¼” H x 59 ⅜” W x 4” D
The Parthenon, that postcard image from the Acropolis of Athens, Greece, was once a great temple of white marble and a staggering program of sculptures to enhance the architecture from floor to ceiling. Built in the 5th century BCE for the goddess Athena, the structure is mostly in ruins now with its treasures lost, looted, or held in the collections of major museums. This piece is a 20th century French reproduction of one section of the pictorial frieze that would have wrapped around the interior structure (measuring over 500 feet altogether) telling a narrative about a procession toward the Acropolis involving many distinct characters, these two horsemen included. In this panel, two men on horseback make their way to the temple among the many others in the procession, note the animal hide draped on the rider to the right side with two clawed feet waving as they gallop along. Stamped on the left-facing edge by the Atelier de Moulage du Louvre (the plaster casting workshop at the Musee du Louvre, Paris). Please view the detailed images to see the current condition.
English Hand-chiseled Stone Trough
$2,150.0012.50"H x 21.50"W x 21.50"D
Dimensions: 12 ½” H x 21 ½” W x 21 ½” D
A substantial, antique English sandstone water trough, featuring wonderful texture from the hand-chiseled carving as well the developed patina from a life outdoors. The circular, although irregular, shape is low and wide to create a shallow vessel for catching water or growing plants. Tactile chisel marks communicate a distinct sense of age and artistry. With its durable construction and timeless, almost Neolithic design, this 19th century (or earlier) garden accessory would make a striking addition to any outdoor space in the country or in the city, complementing both traditional and modern design tastes. A fabulous pot for air plants or other low-maintenance flora. Please view the detailed images to see more.
