  • German 19th Century Large Portrait of Friedrich Engels on Canvas

    $11,995.00

    94"H x 67.25"W x 1.5"D

    Dimensions: 94″H x 67-1/4″W x 1-1/2″D

A heavily bearded Friedrich Engels stares into the distance in this massive 19th century German canvas portrait, 1820-1895. Engels was one of the leading political economists, philosophers, political theoreticians and revolutionary socialist of the 19th Century.  Donning a three piece suit, this co-founder of Marxism is dressed to kill. His beard, although large and prominent, has been managed and kept. The red backdrop provides excellent contrast, pushing Mr. Engels to the front of the painting and is indicative of his politics. Red is the color of the far left political parties across most of the globe, except in the US.  The work is done on a large piece of loose canvas, probably to display at a presentation hall or similar venue for a political event or speech.  This painting is not framed and is attached to rod, therefore it can be rolled for easy transport.
