    This pine dressing table has bold wood grain and is ideal to start your vanity routine.  The surface is at 30-⅛”H with a pivoting mirror and five drawers.  The mirror is 20-⅜”H x 13-⅞”W x ¾”D and is held between two turned posts.  There are two, uniquely disguised drawers sitting on the surface with turned wood, finial knobs.  The table top has a carved trim border and sits atop three drawers that are housed in the apron.  Each drawer has a bone escutcheon plate and working lock operated with a single key.   The scroll detail across the bottom of the drawers act as pulls by reaching just under the front edge and pulling the drawers open.  The whole rests on four extremely detailed, carved and turned wood legs.

    An impressive antique ladder, made entirely of oak, from France, c. 1820.  The long side rails extend skyward, making for a 12-½’ ladder!  Each of the 32 rungs have all been individually hand-carved, with no two looking exactly the same.   The rails are pierced with each of the rungs and hand pegged with seven treenails.  The ladder was likely used in a farm setting allowing farmers to access their elevated product.  It could also serve as a decorative way to store/display blankets and quilts.

  • French 19th Century Hectolitre Winemakers Measure

    This rare, painted tole and brass wine barrel was used by wineries to measure and pour their wines into bottles in preparation for consumption or sale.  The tole and old paint have developed a wonderful patina over time.  It is mounted with a pair of handles and three legs. The measure is outfitted with an overflow and a spout down one side which would allow the excess wine to be emptied into a vessel below to insure little waste.  Every winery would have had one of these barrels and customers would bring a vessel and place it under the spout to fill with the desired amount of wine.  The vintner would charge for the wine by using a measuring stick to determine how much was in the barrel before and after dispensing as not every vessel was of equal size.  This wine vat will hold 100L and could still be used today.  The maker’s badge is emblazoned in a crest on the vessel’s front.

    A gorgeous oak coffer or trunk from the 1700s, England.  The front façade has three panels that have been meticulously carved into identical patterns with additional carvings at the base.  The center panel has the initials ‘B.E.’ carved into the top, showing ownership.  The lid is flat and sides are designed with a more simple, framed panel. This chest was used to store values and once had a working lock that is now missing.

    This specialized oak desk was made in France.  Used by artists, the desk’s lifted surface brings the table towards the artist, minimizing reach, and saving their aching backs.  The work surface has a three quarter wood gallery and raised surface across the front.  The desk is equipped with two drawers.  The top drawer has an ormolu knob and a single compartment.  The lower drawer sits just below and has multiple compartments.  It is somewhat disguised without a pull and moves with the top drawer when it is open and closed.  The desk is constructed with mortise and tenon joints, and wood pegs.  Sometimes a simple design, well executed, is perfection.

    This is a massive French 19th Century mirror from the main hall of the Archbishop Palace Rouen, Normandy, France.  This mirror is over 10’ tall and more than 6’ wide.  Both the frame and mirror show aging.  The original mercury mirror plate has oxidized, creating an undeniable detail in this antique mirror.  The lines on this mirror fall where wood support pieces meet on the back of the mirror.  We can assume over a period of time, moist air flowing through the spaces behind the mirror caused the mercury to oxidize and flake off the glass.

    A fabulous, heavy crystal pitcher from late 19th century France. The vessel is ornamented with exceptional designs cut directly into the glass. Fluted details can be found around the neck, lip and handle, while floral etchings and cross hatching is found about the body. A round pedestal base grounds the pitcher and has been decorated with lines that radiate from its center.

    French Provincial charm pours out of this delightful 19th century antique wire basket that features a vividly-colored majolica plate that serves as the basket’s bowl. The plate is blue and green in color and depicts grape leaves, vines, tendrils and a couple colorful clusters of their fruit. The wire basket has twisted handles and little looped feet that lift it slightly. This decorative antique could be set out for display or hung on the wall.

The vessel has handles which extend from classically styled bearded male Greek faces.

    A fantastic Provincial buffet – made of quarter sawn oak – from 1780s France. This beautiful solid oak case antique features exceptional decorative carvings, all done by hand, that are found on antiques dating to the countryside in this time period. Influenced by Louis XV, the design utilizes the sinuous lines found in that style, but lacks the asymmetry and grandiosity associated with LXV antiques. This tall buffet has three drawers that are set over two locking doors. The doors are hung on brass barrel hinges and have shaped brass escutcheons. The interior has a single fixed shelf. The rounded corners are bedecked with hand-carved details, along with the shapley skirt. The sinuous lines found along the skirt continue onto the short cabriole feet that lift the tall case antique.

    A stunning 19th century wall clock – diamond in shape – with rippling clock frame of ebony-painted wood. Mother-of-pearl astral and filigree designs are inlaid in differently stained mahogany and brilliant mother-of-pearl, surrounding the porcelain clock face in symmetrical form. The white porcelain face has hand-painted Roman numerals. The clock chimes on the hour, and once on the half hour. For an additional $150.00 a quartz movement can be added to the clock to keep time without winding weekly.

    This wonderfully aged 19th century grape press screw – from a winery in Burgundy, France – has been converted into a pedestal with an octagonal top and base added later. The shaft would have driven a large stone wheel downward, crushing and squeezing grapes, forcing out their juice as the stone rotates across them. The production of wine is tantamount to French culture, and these larger-than-life screws make producing it en masse a possibility. This antique press, with a deep, rich staining and patina from the grapes could be incorporated into an architectural project or repurposed as a stunning floor lamp!

    This handsome tub chair, c. 1830, is made of beautiful English oak and has wonderfully aged leather upholstery.  The clean wood finish juxtaposed against the patinated leather and architectural nail heads make for an attractive chair.  Sit into the deep curved, padded back with  H-shaped, carved stretcher backrest that extends to the floor by way of the two back legs.  Rest your arms on antique leather armrests that terminate into beautifully carved scroll supports.  The leather upholstered seat is constructed with traditional antique methods of using horsehair, burlap and spring cushion.  The attention to detail doesn’t stop there, it continues down both front legs.  This chair will add a powerful, antique statement to your house.

    French 19th Century Polychrome Nesting Tables

    A delightfully congenial set of French 19th century painted nesting tables. The set consists of three delicate tables that are graduated in size. They neatly stack or “nest” inside one another, enabling them to be kept out of sight when not being used. The polychrome tables each have exceptional hand-painted details that ornament them and provide a gentle sweetness that only a bouquet of freshly-cut flowers can. Painted green, the tops were trimmed in gold gilt, which can still be seen in many places. The shapely form of the scalloped apron is also integrated into the slender cabriole legs that bend gently at the knee and taper slightly to a pad foot. The three tables individually measure:
    Large: 20-¾”H x 20-½”W x 16-½”D

    Medium: 19-¾”H x 15-⅜”W x 14-½”D

    Small: 18-⅝”H x 11-⅝”W x 13”D

    A sensational Louis XV style painted center table, made in France towards the end of the 19th century. The table features a gorgeous breccia marble top, inset with canted corners that match the base, and smattered with splashes of amethyst and gold. The heavily stylized base is ornamented with detailed motifs including egg and dart, lamb’s tongue, running coin and beaded pearl. It has been painted a warm, buttery cream color and has taken a lovely antique patina. The cabriole legs extend from the canted corners, with foliate embellishments on their knees, and having scrolled feet. c.1890.

    The shaped marble top over two small raised and recessed panel drawers above two long raised and recessed panel drawers.  The shaped apron raised on rounded rectilinear uprights.  The whole with cabochon and continuing “S” shaped molding.  With beautiful color and excellent patina, brass foliate pulls and escutcheon plates.
