A fantastic Biedermeier period trumeau mirror from France, 19th century, made of birch wood and ebonized details around the original mirror plate. The architectural-inspired shape is crowned with a low, pitched roofline framing a central panel with ebonized semicircle dotted with pairs of tole stars (also painted black) above and below. The original mirror glass is characterized by the mesmerizing texture of waves and tiny bubbles, partially obscuring the reflection but complementary to the excitement in the waves of the birch frame. This wonderful 19th century Swedish maple settee features classic Biedermeier design elements adapted to Scandinavian tastes for lightness and simplicity, using only the finest quality materials and techniques. The wide bench seat–wrapped in woven horsehair upholstery of black and brown strands–is sheltered by a pierced seat back accented with ebonized fretwork between stiles of contrasting maple and a toprail of quartersawn planks that reveal shimmering waves in the grain. At the top is a pediment filled with the same ebonized effect for a unified look from tip to toe; four pairs of elegantly tapering legs lift the piece from the floor. An early 20th century French lyre-base ash wood side table with hidden drawer, in the Biedermeier taste. The top surface is a single plank, marked by four small, square pegs in the corners. The planks on each side of the apron and drawer front show expressive grain patterning, which is complemented by the curvaceous lyre-shaped legs with delicate profile that reveal the natural iridescence of the wood. Below the narrow stretcher connecting the legs are two charming heart-shaped cutouts before ending on four feet. An elegant, timeless, and unique accent side table for a living room or bedside table.
