  • French Pair of Period Directoire Side Chairs

    $1,895.00

    33.50"H x 17.63"W x 16"D

    Dimensions: 33 ½” H x 17 ⅝” W x 16” D

A regal pair of French side chairs from the Directoire period (circa 1795-1800). The chairs have chalk-white painted frames now patinated to fine craquelure texture softening the symbolic, Neoclassical imagery carved in the back. Within the thick handrail one sees a stylized Greco-Roman urn framed by a diamond-shaped outline. In the splat is a (pierced) anthemion motif flanked by columns. Wide, flat seats are currently upholstered in a dark green velvet over natural stuffing. One chair has worn through to expose the horsehair underneath. Slender tapered front legs and sabered back legs have both order and a sense of lightness to fit anywhere. Please view the detailed images to see the current condition. Sold as a pair.

  • French Pair of Louis XVI Style Reeded Gilt Mirrors

    $2,500.00

    33.25"H x 26.38"W x 1"D

    Dimensions: 33 ¼” H x 26 ⅜” W x 1” D

Flat, reeded molding is an ideal surface area to reflect the lustre of gold leaf on this exciting pair of French mirrors from circa 1870, now patinated with a fine craquelure texture. Symmetrical for mounting in either direction, these rectangular mirrors would look sharp in any room (or two); the likely new glass is untouched by foxing to reflect every detail. In between the gilded rows are delicate carvings under a layer of pale green paint that give dimension to the restrained design. Please view the detailed images. Sold as a pair.

  • French 19th Century Tall Chest of Drawers

    $3,500.00

    57.63"H x 23.75"W x 13.75"D

    Dimensions: 57 ⅝” H x 23 ¾” W x 13 ¾” D

French 19th century Directoire style fruitwood chest of drawers, appearing to be a semainier except with six drawers instead of the requisite seven. Below the modest wood top and rounded corners is a stack of six drawers inlaid with ebonized diamond shapes for graphic contrast to the glowing fruitwood. Note the bottom drawer is actually double-height with two diamonds to blend quietly in with the upper five. Sometimes referred to as a lingerie chest, the height and narrow proportions would elegantly host the clothing or personal effects of nearly anyone–suiting a range of transitional decorating tastes. All drawers glide with ease using simple brass ring pulls to open, no key is present to operate the locks. Short, cabriole legs lift the case from the floor. Cleaned, tightened, and polished with a French paste wax–ready for your interior. Please view the detailed images to see the current condition.

  • French 19th Century Petite Directoire Desk

    $2,200.00

    28.25"H x 38.38"W x 20.63"D

    Dimensions: 28 ¼” H x 38 ⅜” W x 20 ⅝” D

A petite, French occasional table or writing desk from the 19th century with a very well-patinated leather surface in a gorgeous mahogany frame. The Directoire silhouette of this handsome desk celebrates the strength of refined proportions and restrained ornamentation. Nearly two centuries of use have left dark, mottled areas of color and texture on the leather, partially obscuring the design of the tooled edges. In the case are two drawers, which show keyholes although no key is present, instead, the drawers easily open by pulling the lower edge of the drawer fronts. Four squared and tapering legs rest on small brass casters to potentially move about. We think this desk will be a pleasure to use anywhere. Cleaned and polished with a French paste wax, ready for your interior. Please view the detailed images to see the current condition.

  • French 19th Century Directoire Settee

    $2,800.00

    35.63"H x 47.25"W x 25.75"D

    Dimensions: 35 ⅝” H x 47 ¼” W x 25 ¾” D

A sumptuous French 19th century settee, Directoire in style, with original painted finish of French gray-blue and spruce green. The tightly upholstered seatback and bench seat is done in a modern geometric jacquard of gray and yellow diamond pattern, outlined in a nailhead trim. Green paint brings definition to the carvings on the frame and arms, such as the palmette motif and diamond panels, carried down to the legs with dimensional fluting at the top. Patina as expected from time and use which does not detract from the grand effect of the imaginative carvings. Please view the detailed images to see more.

  • French 19th Century Iron & Marble Butchers Table

    $8,500.00

    34.75"H x 48.13"W x 24.25"D

    Dimensions: 34 ¾” H x 48 ⅛” W x 24 ¼” D

A whimsical French marble and iron work table from circa 1860, that would have been a display fixture in a butcher shop or bakery to present the current offerings. The thick, white marble slab has wispy gray veining throughout, finished with a smooth, rounded edge and is lightly speckled with saffron-toned patina. This example does not have the usual trough around the edge like many butcher’s tables of similar style. Cast iron forming the base has been shaped to elegant scrolls implying a lyre–reflecting the Neoclassical influence at the time–with turquoise verdigris coming through the reddish brown paint. The table is raised on four casters for mobility, making this a practical addition to a bar, kitchen, greenhouse, or patio. View the detailed images to see more of this beautiful antique shop table.
