French vintage 20th century charcoal and chalk drawing of a crouched nude male figure in prayer. Beautiful in its monochromatic palette, the work highlights the youthful muscularity, the sharp geometry of the body in near fetal position while kneeling on the ground with hands clasped under his chin. Currently displayed under acrylic in an understated wood frame (painted black) patinated with areas of loss, ready to hang as is in your interior. No visible signature but very similar to the work of Isidore Pils and his studies of the Chapel of Saint Remi, Sainte-Clotilde, Paris. French vintage 20th century charcoal and chalk sketch/study of a statuesque woman in loose-fitting dress (like a dressing gown); out of context she could easily be mistaken for a figure from Greco-Roman antiquity. Beautiful in its simplicity and monochromatic palette, the work highlights the gathering of fabric in her voluminous gown, the waves of her hair, and the dancer’s grace suggest her outstretched arms. An understated giltwood frame draws the viewer in for a closer look, however there is some loss to the molding at the upper left corner.
