This solid walnut wine tasting table, properly known as a vendange, was made in the late 19th century in France. Used by wine-makers throughout France and Europe, these specialized tables have a tilting mechanism that allows its top to be positioned in upright orientation–taking up less space in tightly-quartered cellars. A quick twist of the V-shaped support leg locks the oval top in place when flat. This unique table would be delightful as a center table to greet your guests, as well as in an informal dining space like a breakfast nook. Two paneled doors enclose the case below: the left door hooks onto the interior shelf and the right door is secured by lock & key. Inside is a stationary shelf, 16 ½” deep. A unique farm table with origins in 19th century France, adapted in the 20th century with a new white marble top on the original oak frame. At just over six-feet long, the scale is perfect to host intimate gatherings of family & friends or everyday meals. The top surface of antique honed white marble has a smooth texture that is inviting to the touch, animated by thin ribbons of gray veining and finished to rounded corners. Patina is light with spots or streaks of tan discoloration after decades of use. Two pairs of square, muscular legs support the scale of the table joined by stretchers across the length and width–all stained an attractive shade of chestnut. Distance between the legs is approximately 66” to fit three chairs per side comfortably (or a single bench) with the possibility of a chair on each end. A French hand-carved butcher block table made from walnut, dating to the late 1800s. It has a thick work surface, well-patinated from time and use, enclosed on three sides by a raised edge. The small drawer, opened by a tiny turned wood knob,is lined in a festive plaid fabric. Behind the paneled door of the lower cabinet (with brass knob) the shelf and bottom are lined with the same fabric for a pleasant surprise. Square in shape, the stool stands on lovely turned and fluted legs connected to an elaborate, hand-carved, and shaped stretcher that meets in the center, topped with a decorative finial. The seat is upholstered with the original colorful floral needlepoint tapestry held tightly by well patinated brass nail heads. This nicely sized stool is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use and showcases a well patinated warm white paint that would work well in almost any space. The large pendulum was crafted from brass by hand, you can still see some of the hammer marks. This weight-driven clock is in working order, provided it is regularly wound. One crank-key included.
