    French 19th painted and gold gilt barometer and thermometer.  It is a recognizable ‘banjo’ shaped scientific instrument with all the carved details in gold gilt and the background is painted a sage green.  The circular face has painted numbers and lettering behind glass for reading the barometer.  There is also a painted scale on the face of the thermometer.     This delightful pair of French 19th century altar torches are made from sturdy wood and metal. Raised gilt brass ornamentation of cherubs and the initials IHS, which stands for Jesus, grace the top of the torches. At one time these would have been lit by fire, today they have been rewired for the US using UL listed parts. This particular measure features a striped design as well as a plaque indicating its maker, place of origin and capacity. This “10 liter” measure was made by P. Puig in Perpignan, France. Today, it would make a fantastic vessel for keeping kitchen utensils at arm’s reach or as a decorative object when placed on a shelf or surface. It still holds 10 liters, and could be used in its original application.

    A 19th century long cutting board from France in a rectangular shape with a metal hanger on the end. The worn board is made of a single piece of wood. Knife marks and scrapes that were left by cooks, now long gone, can be seen and felt as if they were made yesterday.
