Two pairs of square, muscular legs support the scale of the table joined by stretchers across the length and width–all painted a vibrant and energizing Kelly green. Note the impressive dovetail joinery that is evidence of the talent and technique behind the table’s creation including the squared and slightly tapering legs without visible joinery. An outstanding country farmhouse table from 19th century France, handcrafted from pine and washed in a layered black pigment that would have appeared ebonized at the time. The top planks are arranged in a breadboard formation on one side (the end with the most obvious area of patina) and flat on the opposite end, while all the edges have a weathered softness that feels inviting to the touch. Many generations of use has worn through the dark finish to develop a tactile rusticity exposing the light wood grain below. Within the apron are three drawers: one is original and two are custom replacements made with the utmost care to blend seamlessly into the design. A total of six legs distribute the weight of the table, built to host an abundance of food and guests, with a leg at each corner and two thoughtfully positioned under the center to not obstruct feet or chairs. French 19th Century Solid Oak Trestle Base Table

A monumental 19th century French oak dining table with unique, architectural elements in the trestle base. Impossibly heavy, the top planks are nearly 3” thick, old-growth wood including dense grain patterns and knots, all assembled with square peg joinery keeping with the organic texture. The linear boards are capped on the short ends by perpendicular planks in breadboard formation. Typical of refectory type tables, the supporting legs (two per end) are deep and wide for an interesting profile from every angle, including the massive feet on the floor. A large stretcher (51 ⅝” long) spans the distance in between the legs that will comfortably fit two dining chairs on each side.
