    28.88"H x 34.25"W x 34.88"D

    Dimensions: 28 ⅞” H x 34 ¼” W x 34 ⅞” D

A magnificent tilt-top table from Sweden, late 19th century, attributed by the label affixed underneath to Lars Olsson, of Upsala. When tilted, the table measures: 47 ½” H x 34 ¼” W x 22 ⅜” D. Today, the scale of this unique table would be perfect for a breakfast room or informal dining space to eat or play games, but could also serve as a center table. A French Louis XVI style mahogany low table/coffee table dating to the early-20th century, in the most incredible marquetry complemented by a stunning marble top. The disc of “breccia pernice” type marble shows delightful patches of mauve and butter-yellow stone, complemented by a pierced brass gallery around the circumference. This timeless table design matches earlier bouillotte tables–made for playing cards–scaling the proportions down to coffee table size to fit a living room arrangement. There are two small drawers tucked in the apron, and two small leaves inset with tooled leather surfaces that emerge to hold perhaps a drink or hand of playing cards. The exterior of the apron is entirely inlaid with geometric marquetry in a chevron pattern bordered by a thin line of contrasting, twisted effect. Tapered legs, a signature Louis XVI design, are wrapped in a more complete cross section of marquetry that shows variegated graining to end at the floor in brass sabot feet. Cleaned, tightened, and polished with a French paste wax, this extraordinary occasional table is ready for your interior. Please view the detailed images to see the current condition as the marble shows a number of thin scratches.

  • French 19th Century Walnut Wine Tasters Table

    $2,995.00

    28.88"H x 44.25"W x 43.25"D

    Dimensions: 28 ⅞” H x 44 ¼” W x 43 ½” D

This wine tasting table, properly known as a vendange, was made in the late 19th century in France by a creative process of wrapping a painted canvas on the walnut planks to create a tactile but durable finish. Originally the round top would have been dense with red roses and vines painted on a black background–now variably patinated–the fugitive pigment leaving behind the embossed texture of the flora with thin traces of color. Used by wine-makers throughout France and Europe, these specialized tables use a tilting mechanism that allows its top to be positioned in upright orientation – taking up less space in tightly-quartered cellars. A quick twist of the V-shaped support leg locks the top in place when flat. This unique table would be delightful as a center table to greet your guests, as well as in an informal dining space like a breakfast nook. Please view the detailed images to see more.
