An English oak rectangular bench from the late 19th century with three pairs of turned legs to lift the seat, that has been upholstered more recently in a practical, faux leather. The robust proportions of the bench integrate the timeless charm of oak with the technical sophistication of turned legs (without the need for stretchers), keeping the design elevated and refined to suit a number of interior decoration tastes. Upholstery in a mottled brown faux leather accented by a nailhead trim is cohesive with the style, offering the peace of mind and easy maintenance to enjoy this bench in nearly any scenario: hallways, dining and living rooms, offices, or bedrooms. A circa 1780 English oak settle or bench of stately carved details. With a finely paneled back of grand proportions–long enough to comfortably seat three or four people–this lovely settle is framed by graceful arms shaped and thoughtfully cut away as an inviting and comfortable feature. A squab–or bench cushion–upholstered in soft green and ivory foliate pattern rests on railroaded wood stretchers for support. The seat filling is densely packed with natural fibers of uncertain equine (horse hair) or vegetal origin. Note that the fabric is in poor condition with stains and discoloration. Elevating the whole are three turned and tapering pad-footed front legs, quite thick, and three squared back legs to sit flush against a wall. Large rustic bench from Spain, 19th century, originally used as a butcher’s table. If one can overlook the macabre history of the piece, there is organic beauty in the solid plank from a tree trunk, showing incredible, natural grain pattern. Human-made patina by way of the chop marks, gives further texture over the crevices of dry heartwood. Four primitive legs go from the table surface to the ground to offer structural stability and visual interest to the asymmetric form. A Swedish pair of Louis XVI style benches made in the 1700’s. These classically styled benches have a neutral colored top cushion filled with horsehair, ready for a custom upholstery. The frames have hand-carved rosettes in each corner and other Louis XVI style motifs throughout. The whole terminates on fluted and tapered legs. Sold as a set only. An extraordinary little carved oak bench from 19th century France. This wonderful petite bench was made in the Louis XVI style and has a sinuously shaped top with a cane seat that is in excellent antique condition. The shaped apron is adorned with carved floral splay details and affixed to the legs with peg and hole joinery. The six legs are turned, tapered and fluted. They are reinforced by a delicately turned stretcher. The solid oak is marvelously patinated, warm and inviting. A truly sweet little place to have a seat. C.1870
