French Vintage Framed Print of The Reader by Henner
$295.00Original price was: $295.00.$225.00Current price is: $225.00.21.50"H x 26.50"W x 0.75"D
Dimensions: 21 ½” H x 26 ½” W x ¾” D
A magical framed reproduction from early 20th century France of Jean-Jacques Henner’s “La Liseuse” (the reader), which the original painting is part of the collection of the Musée D’Orsay in Paris. The 1880s time period is evident in the Pre-Raphaelite style of the work: soft lighting, sensual yet tasteful, and a reference to literature as seen in her leisurely reading from a book. Framed like an archway of gilt molding with low relief carvings and mat board of alternating turquoise and ivory, this unexpected shape complements the art beautifully as repetition of the subject’s curves. Belgian Early 20th Century Still Life in Gilt Frame
$695.0031.13"H x 33"W x 2.50"D
Dimensions: 31 ⅛” H x 33” W x 2 ½” D
This early 20th century still life is a classic composition of mixed fruits and vessels on a wood table, however the moody lighting conditions show the remarkable talent and perceptive observations of the artist, Aurélien Dehon. Arranged before a murky background, a ceramic pitcher is softly illuminated by the light coming from a nearby window which is barely reflected on the dark brown demijohn to the right. In the foreground is a white platter of fruit that appears to be bananas and apples. A complementary gold gilt frame (repaired) protects the delicate work, which shows its age in a craquelure texture, some loss of pigment, and a small hole near the mouth of the pitcher. Signed by the artist “Dehon” and a small sticker pasted to the back with unclear title and address. Please view the detailed images to see the current condition.

French Vintage Framed Floral Still Life
$250.0019.25"H x 16.25"W x 0.75"D
Dimensions: 19 ¼” H x 16 ¼” W x ¾” D
A spirited French oil on canvas painting of vintage age & condition. To call the work a “still-life” is a disservice to the vitality and celebration of color happening within the scene; the vase at center overflows with bursts of pink, orange, yellow, and white blossoms in impasto technique reminding the viewer of the abundance and excitement of gardens at the height of summer. This small painting will surely command attention in any gallery wall collection but has the presence to stand on its own as well. Currently set within a simple wood picture frame and ready to hang in your interior. Dedicated by the artist to their mother, for Christmas 1976, on the reverse as well as a signature on the front. Dimensions: 27” H x 39” W x 1 ½” D
This endearing vintage French painting on board of two pheasants is sure to put a smile on your face, transporting the viewer to a rural countryside where the imagination is free to roam. Above, in the cloudless blue sky, is a giant yellow butterfly larger than the female pheasant with pink antennae. No visible signature; framed and ready to hang in your interior. Dimensions: 23” H x 17” W x ½” D
A vibrant vintage French cityscape painting on board, looking down the Rue du Gros Horlogue in Rouen. Four soldiers in the foreground regard him expressing a range of emotions from grief to shock. French Vintage Framed Modern Still Life
$2,600.0016.88"H x 13"W x 1.38"D
Dimensions: 16 ⅞” H x 13” W x 1 ⅜” D
Although this contemporary French oil on panel is more recent in age (circa 1998), the style and subject matter can be traced back to the French and German Expressionist painters like George Rouault and Fernand Leger of the nearly 20th century. In a vibrant palette of intense orange and green complemented with mauve, the composition features a pair of vases–or maybe a vase and a pitcher–filled with mixed bouquets of small flowers that are guarded by the effigy of a female figure whose disproportionately large hands shield her chest and lower waist. Artist signature of “Andreas” and ‘98 visible in the lower left. Protected by a simple wood frame, ready to hang in your interior. Please view the detailed images to see more of this unique painting.

French 19th Century Portrait of a Flower Girl
$450.0021.75"H x 18"W x 1.13"D
Dimensions: 21 ¾” H x 18” W x 1 ⅛” D
A heartwarming, late 19th century French oil-on-linen portrait of a young girl bearing a garland of pink flowers, painted in a technique of folk art naivety for emotional, rather than realistic, effect. Likely a posthumous portrait, sadly, works like these were common in the 19th century to immortalize the departed–a life cut short by unfortunate circumstances–in a medium (paint) that is more conducive to reflecting idealized memory than the truth of photography. Her fair complexion, the white dress with blue satin sash and matching necklace are a welcome counterpoint of youthful vitality against the bleak landscape behind her. The viewer is drawn in by her hazel eyes focused in an arresting stare. Sold unframed, please view the detailed images to see more of this curious painting.

$265.0013.13"H x 16.25"W x 1"D
Dimensions: 13 ⅛” H x 16 ¼” W x 1” D
This mid-20th century French still-life oil painting gives a modern twist to the classic composition of mixed fruits and bottles on a wood table. Arranged before a murky background of earth tones, the opaque demijohn at center (the kind used for storing wine) is joined by a decanter of brandy to the left and fluted drinking glass to the right. Luscious purple grapes to the far left are given a royal shade of blue while the grouping of pears to the right glow with the jolting effervescence of citrus. No visible signature. Sold unframed, please view the detailed images.

French Modern Still Life Painting
$265.0018.25"H x 15"W x 1"D
Dimensions: 18 ¼” H x 15” W x 1” D
A green glass pickling jar takes center stage as the focal point of this vintage 20th century French still-life painting, nestled into a stark white cloth. The artist shows remarkable talent in how they have captured the various textures within this small grouping: the cork lid, the reflectivity of the dark glass, and the undulating drape of the fabric. A monochromatic background in shades of ochre & terracotta lends a moody, surrealist quality to the image. No visible signature. Please view the detailed images, sold unframed.

French 19th Century Framed Fabric Sample
$1,100.0028.75"H x 22.75"W x 1.25"D
Dimensions: 28 ¾” H x 22 ¾” W x 1 ¼” D
An original textile sample for approval (referred to in the industry as a “strike off”) from France, 19th century. The delicate work is preserved in an antique gold gilt frame and antique wavy glass, recently mounted on archival-quality matting. This memento from the design process of creating a new fabric pattern or colorway challenges the definition between fine art and decorative art by treating the conceptual mockup as an original work in itself. Handpainted on paper drawn in a grid, lovely pink plumes on a red background are both delicate and bold; one can see the technical precision required to translate this spirited design on a larger scale for the loom. One small cutting of fabric is included to the left of the image, with the technical aspects of the design written on a label to the upper right of the image. Strung with a wire on the back, ready for your interior. Please view the image gallery for a closer look at all the details.

$650.0017.50"H x 14.50"W x 0.75"D
Dimensions: 17 ½” H x 14 ½” W x ¾” D
A lovely vintage French still life oil painting on panel of a red hyacinth in bloom, the vibrant hue of the flower is striking against the muted blue and beige stripe background. Artists will often conserve materials, painting over the same canvas or on both sides of a board; On the reverse side of this panel is an additional still life–quite different from the front in both mood & technique–depicting a bowl of pears and grapes in a palette of mostly green and pink with turquoise. We loved both sides so much we have selected a new silver frame that allows for easy rotation between the two sides as desired, hung from the incorporated hooks. A few words of text or title are visible on the fruit bowl side, please view the detailed images to see more.

Three men can be observed fishing from the large rock formation on the right side of the image. In the distance closer to land, several more sailboats partially obscure a cathedral being erected and we can only venture to guess the significance of the columnar monument on the horizon. Accumulations of paint in an impasto technique give dimension to the otherwise flat surface, please view the detailed images as there are areas of loss to the paint.
