A wonderful anchor for an office, library, or center table as the piece is symmetrical to use from either side. The top surface is finished in an embossed (gold tooled) green leather that has patinated wonderfully with a distinct patch of wear on the top from repeated use by what must have been someone left-handed. French 19th Century Mahogany & Leather Partners Desk
$9,995.0031.13"H x 60"W x 41.75"D
Dimensions: 31 ⅛” H x 60” W x 41 ¾” D
Two people can comfortably use this remarkable French 19th century mahogany partner’s desk, that is they are willing to share such a magnificent design. The desk has a unique ability to be disassembled into more manageable components for installation and transportation: the broad work surface (including shallow drawers) separates from the two pedestal bases which are mirror images of each other with a cabinet on one side and drawers on the other. The two pedestals that support the top can be switched to have two banks of drawers, one bank of drawers – one cabinet, or two cabinets facing one side at a time, depending on the users’ preference. The top surface is finished in an embossed (tooled) vermilion-red leather that has patinated wonderfully. The drawers are all equipped with pairs of ring pulls and the cabinets are reinforced by (more recent) magnetic latches opening to a single fixed shelf inside. Note that only certain locks still function and the antique comes with four total keys. The whole rests upon plinth bases. Recently cleaned, tightened professionally refinished to preserve the historic character. Please view the detailed images to see the current condition.

More unique than other types of writing tables and desks, the partner desk is usually a double-width desktop and pass-through legroom for two people to study, write, work, or otherwise play the part of the executive or artist.
Some enjoy the simple expanse of a partner desk to use on their own, while some four-sided partner desks are perfect for bridge and tabletop board games. The possibilities are endless with this generous, wide-angle style. Whether you’re looking for drawer columns on plinths in the executive style or something with more room underneath, it’s hard to imagine a piece of furniture making the statement of a partner desk.
How to Choose an Antique Partner Desk
If you’re looking for a partner desk, you have dramatic style in mind. No other furnishing makes the same statement as a partner desk, with its thick width and dedication to usefulness.
They can be as heavy as an armoire or as delicate as an 1880s dining table. For example, the beautiful and intricate Queen Anne style offers significant storage while giving you the space to indulge your creativity or put words to your passions.
If you’ve decided on an antique partner desk, you have already made quite a few decisions about the interior design of your home or study. Now it’s time to find the perfect centerpiece.
Types of Antique Partner Desks
Great for couples, work partners, homeschooling, and other occasions where you might want to stretch out, the partner desk comes in burlwood, walnut, mahogany, and other heavier woods. In addition, it could be shaped like a kitchen table or even more clever shapes, like the traditional oval or modern square simplicity.
The 1870s Victorian style balances a flat single- or double-drawer desktop on finely turned wooden legs, while the leather-topped, double-sided partner desk gives everything a classic executive feel and style.
Regardless of your passion, antique partner desks offer impressive aesthetics and functionality. Whether you have a rustic-inspired living room or modern office, you can find the perfect antique partner desk to add a sense of elegance and a piece of history to your home.
