A chaise lounge offers a luxurious place to sit and reminisce about the beauty of the past. Favored in France in the 1500s, chaise lounges are small sofas with an elongated form and low back that makes them ideal for putting your feet up and relaxing. They are a mix between sofas and daybeds, providing luxury and relaxation in one convenient package.

While they found popularity in France, early iterations of the chaise lounge are prevalent in ancient Egypt and Greece. Beloved for centuries, these ergonomic pieces of furniture will never go out of style. Antique chaise lounges look stunning in living rooms and bedrooms. They’re also fantastic for backyards or patios as eye-catching outdoor pieces. The sky is the limit when it comes to these versatile couches.

Choosing Your Chaise Lounge Style

When it comes to antique chaise lounges, you have many styles to choose from. For example, French chaise lounges are commonly in the Louis XV revival and Neoclassical styles, whereas Swedish and English chaise lounges are less extravagant and slightly more modern.

Some chaise lounges come with ornately decorated armchairs and matching footrests, whereas others are minimalist and contemporary in their appearance. Are you looking for fashion? Functionality? A little bit of both? There is bound to be an antique chaise lounge you will love.

Regardless of what design piques your interest, most antique chaise lounges feature wood such as oak, pearwood, and walnut in their construction. This makes them sturdy pieces of art you can appreciate for many years. Additionally, they come upholstered with a myriad of rich silks and fabrics, so there are infinite designs available. This makes them ideal for various decor styles—from retro to contemporary.
