  • Italian 18th Century Painted Buffet

    $7,895.00

    37"H x 69"W x 20"D

    Dimensions: 37” H x 69” W x 20” D

An endearing 18th century Italian hand-painted buffet that departs from the strong visual codes of the Baroque period adopting the relaxed manner of Louis XV and Gustavian polychrome furniture. The tone-on-tone blue cabinet is fitted with two doors on the front side, in between nicely canted corners interrupted by narrow, paneled sections filled with abstract gradients of blue in reference to the sky. The upper surface is a dark slate whereas the majority of the exterior is cerulean. Central panels on the doors have been treated as a cartouche for artistic expression to illustrate what appears to be the casting out of Adam & Eve from the garden of Eden and their circumstances following. A twist of the turned knob on either door opens to reveal a divided interior of two sections each with a shelf, 16 ⅝” deep. Above each door is a small drawer using Chinoiserie/Chippendale drop pulls, repeated again on the wide drawer that spans the front. Large, turned bun feet elevate the case from the floor. Below the drawers are two paneled doors enclosing the undivided cabinet using tiny brass knobs and secured by wood latches. The long, interior shelf measures 16 ¼” deep. A French, early to mid-20th century four door enfilade transformed more recently with a painted, scraped blue finish applied by hand that beautifully contrasts the linear formality of the wide case. Four paneled doors enclose the unpainted interior, secured by magnetic catches and released by a gentle pull on the understated brass knobs. Note that the center doors open in tandem for easy access to the undivided cabinet with a single shelf (17 ½” D) spanning the width for abundant storage capacity to keep a living room or dining room organized. This 19th century Louis XVI style walnut enfilade is topped with an exciting slab of Verde Patricia marble that beautifully contrasts the linear formality and rich brown tones of the case. The energetic stone is swirled with veining and patches of white and emerald green, shaped with chamfered front corners then projecting slightly over the fluted pilasters in the case below. Storage options of the large case are arranged as three drawers across the frieze and four cabinet doors below representing three distinct compartments that will keep a dining room, living room, or foyer organized. Below the wide drawer (at center) is the larger of the three cabinets, flanked on the other side of the pilaster by smaller cabinets all using their own working locks and keys to open. Interior shelves, approximately 17 ¼” deep, are adjustable on sawtooth brackets to reconfigure to your needs–wherever this dramatic storage piece finds its new home. • French Mid Century Modern Sideboard

    $5,600.00

    31.38"H x 86.63"W x 17.75"D

    Dimensions: 31 ⅜” H x 86 ⅝” W x 17 ¾” D

French Mid-century Modern (circa 1960) walnut sideboard of undeniable Scandinavian-Danish inspiration, to offer practical and attractive storage in a dining or living room. The rectangular case is separated into three storage options: each sliding door represents a compartment, with a stack of four drawers to the right. Note that holes are drilled for pegs to support a shelf inside the compartments, however the original shelves are not present. The top drawer retains the original red felt lining to cushion serving pieces if using a sideboard or buffet in a dining room. Another drawer has been adapted by cutting a small opening in the bottom (perhaps for a cable or cord). Hand-carved finger pulls on the drawers are sleek and sculptural, like the inset handles of the doors which balance the modern qualities of the design with organic references. Inside the left cabinet is the original sticker of “NF Ameublement” to indicate its mark of quality that is still apparent and endures sixty-plus years later. This beautiful case piece has been cleaned, tightened and polished with a French paste wax to last for generations to come. Please view the detailed images.

  • French Vintage Mahogany & Marble Top Enfilade

    40.50"H x 98.75"W x 21.63"D

    Dimensions: 40 ½” H x 98 ¾” W x 21 ⅝” D

A statement piece for a dining room or foyer, this 20th century Louis XVI style enfilade speaks of refined taste and luxury, marked NF Ameublements after winning of a gold medal for quality French design. The beige marble slab conforms to the breakfront that hangs over the middle section before sloping back toward the wall, the stone traced with abstract veining of gray ribbons. Note that there is a break on the rear left corner, see the image gallery for more information. Three rectangular drawers in the center are lined in felt material with various folds and slots to organize a collection of silverware. They are separated by gilt bronze appliques of foliate design over fluted pilasters in between the lower cabinet doors and all drawers use gilt bronze laurel wreath ring pulls. Surprisingly, the curved left and right corners aren’t fixed but fully functioning drawers as well, sliding out at a 45 degree angle to the case. In the main body, five doors with stunning bookmatched mahogany veneer enclose the various storage compartments: quarter-round cabinets to the sides offering two shelves each, a wide cabinet behind the left and middle doors with two shelves, and narrow cabinet to the right with one shelf. Fluted, tapered feet with bronze appliques and sabots elevate the piece from the floor giving it a sense of lightness in spite of the grand scale. Burled maple veneer wrapping the storage case exhibits uniquely figured patterns of tightly swirled grain and dense accumulation of “eyes” in a glorious shade of honey-gold. Ebonized inlay in thin pinstripes creates definition on the two drawer front and two doors, with a geometric inlay using mahogany applied to the curved panel at center. Neoclassical ormolu appliques in floral motif armor the front corners, matching the swagged drawer handles and ornate escutcheons over the doors. Both doors retain working locks to enclose the undivided cabinet offering a long, fixed shelf, 15 ¾” deep. Conical feet nod to modernity without the expected fluting, raising the piece from the floor. Cleaned, tightened, and polished with French paste wax this fascinating antique buffet is ready for your interior.
