This fabulous col de cygne bergere was crafted in France circa 1810! In good antique condition with signs of wear consistent with over 200 years of use. Deeply toned, patinated mahogany frames beautifully compliment the stunning green velvet upholstery. Embossed with laurel wreaths and floral forms for a smart but whimsical design with floral border. The arms feature intricately hand-carved swan forms with detailed wings on the interior and exterior; a unique and intentional characteristic. Distinctive front legs with claw feet create a cohesive design. The cushions retain the original horsehair cushioning and tan and white gingham fabric backing. Comfortable and chic, this bergere is eye-catching in any living space. Removing the bottom cushion reveals the original vibrant tone of the fabric, a glimpse into the past! Seat height is 14-¾”. Shop Vintage & Antique Corner Chairs

Designers first invented corner chairs during the 18th century in England. Corner chairs feature angular or curved backs, allowing you to fit them into tight spaces, including bedchambers and dressing rooms. Corner chairs also provide comfort when you need to sit for long periods.

You can find richly upholstered and padded Louis XV velvet corner chairs or simple wood and rattan Dutch corner chairs. Other traditional styles included Georgian, Chippendale, East Lake Victorian, and Queen Anne. Of course, you can also explore antique corner chairs that have a more modern taste—such as Ligne Roset corner chairs or 1930s Art Deco chairs with brass finishes.

You can find various design choices and exquisite color schemes and patterns. If you want to add the finishing touch to a room or redecorate a guest room, a corner chair can fit into even small nooks to add more seating space.

Combining Comfort and Functionality with Visual Appeal

Antique corner chairs aren’t just for sprucing up a room’s atmosphere. As the name suggests, corner chairs work best in a corner, making them a great reading nook. Sip your morning coffee or evening wine while diving into an engaging book.

Of course, the elevated sense of coziness of sitting in a chair with a curved back also means these chairs are perfect for having guests over and engaging in conversation.

How to Choose the Right Corner Chair for Your Space

Many corner chairs exist, including Art Nouveau chairs that highlight the beauty of natural wood while adding extra flair with asymmetrical lines. You also have classical Victorian chairs that feature a more ornamental design.

When deciding what corner chair to buy, it’s crucial to consider your tastes and where you’ll place your chair. A bedroom or study may benefit from a bamboo style that invokes a feeling of comfort. Meanwhile, a tufted velvet corner chair in the dining room or hallway can add comfort and elegance.

Regardless of your needs, you can find many design patterns and antique corner chairs that are works of art that can quickly strike up a conversation while providing a convenient place to sit.
