French 19th Century Oak Louis XVI Style Marquise Armchair
$3,700.0036"H x 33.50"W x 25.50"D
Dimensions: 36” H x 33 ½” W x 25 ½” D
A Louis XVI style fauteuil from the 19th century in scaled-up proportions known as a “marquise” for accommodating a lady’s voluminous skirt. This example features timeless sophistication, beautiful lines, and restrained ornamentation that allows the gorgeous yellow-gold worn velvet upholstery to shine. Overall the upholstery is in good condition with some areas of wear, as seen in the detailed images; down feather in the removable seat cushion is still quite firm and comfortable to read or relax. Fluted carvings in the oak frame, stained to a dark mahogany tone, are carried down through the tapered legs. The wood has been gently cleaned and polished with a French paste wax, ready for your interior. Please view the detailed images as they are an important part of the product description.

Italian Vintage Set of Four Ebonized Upholstered Armchairs
$4,995.0034.25"H x 24"W x 19"D
Dimensions: 34 ¼” H x 24” W x 19” D
A very unusual set of four dining armchairs from Italy–1980s, the height of Postmodern and Memphis design– with stylistic references that go back to the late 19th century. The influence of Charles Rennie Mackintosh is undeniable as the chairs are stylized, even architectural in their simplification of distinct geometric lines made even more pronounced by the sturdiness of the ebonized frames. At the top of the chairs is a crescent-shaped headrest narrowing to sharp points, rising from the splat of three parallel bars set at a comfortable recline behind the upholstered seats (currently in a sage-green chenille). Vertical legs at the front and sabered legs at the back are sturdy, rising up to half-moon armrests. The openness of the design and the bold creativity invites a conversation whether placed around a dining table or a living room arrangement. Gently cleaned and polished, ready for your interior. Please view the detailed images as they are an essential to the product description. Sold as a set of four only.

Swedish Biedermeier Style Pair of Carved Birch Armchairs
$2,500.0033.75"H x 22.88"W x 22.50"D
Dimensions: 33 ¾” H x 22 ⅞” W x 22 ½” D
A unique pair of Swedish late 19th century/early 20th century carved birch armchairs, the style would best be described as Biedermeier hence the beautiful blonde wood frames with Neoclassical profile and saber legs that would fit with nearly all traditional to contemporary decorating styles. The upper handrails are carved with a highly technical twisted effect flanked by turned rings as the only decorative flourish on the otherwise restrained yet elegant design. Currently the seats are upholstered in a very worn, satin material of alternating stripes in sage-green and ivory which complements the luminous frame. At 18” seat height they easily adapt for dining or as occasional chairs in a living room setting. Please view the detailed images to see more. Sold as a pair only.

French 19th Century Directoire Fauteuil
$2,800.0034.50"H x 21"W x 21.25"D
Dimensions: 34 ½” H x 21” W x 21 ¼” D
A majestic French 19th century Directoire fauteuil armchair in charming patinated finish that reveals at least three layers of different colors painted over the carved wood frame. The most recent color is a pale, buttery cream, blending with a stone gray, and where those have chipped off a pastel turquoise is exposed. Currently the upholstery is a linen or linen-blend hopsack in tan, outlined by a nailhead trim. A seat cushion is removable for easy maintenance which is in worn but good condition to continue using. Small rosettes decorate the arms and junction of the legs which have fine, turned rings to accentuate their svelte profile. It appears a crack on the chair’s right arm was professionally repaired, which is almost imperceptible under the textured paint. Please view all the detailed images to see the current condition as they are an important part of the product description.

Swedish Biedermeier 19th Century Birch Armchairs
$3,200.0032.25"H x 21.63"W x 19.63"D
Dimensions: 32 ¼” H x 21 ⅝” W x 19 ⅝” D
A pair of Swedish Biedermeier armchairs from circa 1820 in birch that expresses the most extraordinary patterns (which occur naturally in the wood) but have been revealed by the skilled hand of the artisan. The rather square and restrained profile of the chairs is contrasted by the lyre represented on the splat, which incorporates thin metal rods as the “strings” for the instrument. Seats are currently upholstered in a heavyweight twill material of complementary faded brick tone that is in worn condition but acceptable to continue using. They are a natural seat height for dining, and generous in scale to incorporate as occasional chairs for a living room setting. Wood frames have been gently cleaned and polished with a French paste wax to maintain the natural luster. Please view all the detailed images to see the current condition as they are an important part of the product description. Sold as a pair only.

French 19th Century Set of Ten Os de Mouton Dining Chairs
$8,795.0044.25"H x 23.25"W x 26"D
Dimensions: 44 ¼” H x 23 ¼” W x 26” D
A suite of ten dining chairs from 19th century France composed of (8) side chairs and (2) armchairs all upholstered in a needlepoint material referencing Verdure tapestry. Thick, oak frames are carved and shaped in the iconic “Os de Mouton” profile (like mutton bones) which is a biomorphic silhouette that pairs nicely with the lush foliate imagery in the textile. The fabric is rendered in muted tones of sage, gray, and khaki for subtle contrast between the overlapping canopy of tree limbs while a large nailhead trim around the seats offers textural contrast. Generous in scale and very comfortable for dining, the timeless style would not be out of place in more professional settings as well. Note the wood frames have been cleaned and gently refinished to preserve their historic character. The upholstery is in good condition, with some wear visible on certain chairs. Please view all the detailed images to see more. Sold as a set of ten only.

Dimensions: 31 ⅜” H x 29 ½” W x 30” D
A delightful pair of 19th century French Empire/Napoleon III style “crapaud” chairs that are affectionately named after their resemblance to a toad but in the current vermilion velvet upholstery the effect is a bit more fabulous than amphibious. These examples have a low profile with rounded back–like a tub chair–complete with rolled arms and matching bullion fringe skirting the floor. As a pair they dress up any seating area, creating a cozy and inviting spot to converse or relax in an air of French luxury & sophistication. Internal stuffing remains a comfortable firmness, however there are several areas of wear to the fabric. Please view the detailed images to see the current condition. Sold as a pair.

Dimensions: 33” H x 27 ½” W x 29” D
A luxurious and inviting pair of 19th century French Louis XV style carved oak bergeres with olive-gold cut velvet upholstery. The comfortable seat interior, using removable seat cushions, is soft and deep to read or lounge, balanced on dainty cabriole legs accented with escargot feet at the floor. Note that some of the piping has come loose, a few nailheads missing, and fabric is abraded which in no way affects the comfort. French 18th Century Louis XV Parlor Suite

Dimensions: 37” H x 65 ⅞” W x 25 ½” D
French, 18th century Louis XV period seating ensemble to instantly transform a parlor or living room into a grand “salon” with seven pieces: one camelback sofa, three fauteuil armchairs, and three (armless) side chairs. Upholstery of cut velvet in pale green–like a white jade–has been brocaded with tonal damask patterns, harmonizing with the botanical theme in the caved frames, and outlined in brass nailhead trim. The giltwood frames have patinated over the centuries to reveal the deep red bole underneath, giving definition to the sinuous, rococo curves accented with floral and foliate carvings positioned at strategic points for maximum effect. The thoughtful proportions of the seat interior (balancing the heights and depths) are all quite comfortable, with dense stuffing of horse hair or other natural material that remains mostly firm and supportive underneath the tight upholstery.
