Antique Trumeau Mirrors

This fantastic trumeau is the perfect combination of a piece that is just as artistic as it is functional. The worn slate gray paint has a tinge of blue and has gained a handsome patina. The large whimsical oil painting is encircled with low relief carving and topped with a tied ribbon. Done in organic tones with soft brush strokes, the scene depicts multiple groups of people enjoying a natural spring surrounded by dense forest. The square antique mirror plate is surrounded in the same fashion as the painting with floral dies in each corner and faux artichoke finials at the top. Gracing the space between the mirror and painting is a carved, detailed urn flanked with flowing ribbon and laurel swags. A fabulous gold gilt trumeau from 19th Century France with exceptional carving and shaped glass. A darling circular painting of a man and two women cherry picking in the woods is encompassed by symmetrical floral inspired carving. The impressively sized antique mercury mirror plate is beveled with very light foxing. Over the decades, the gilt finish has gained a wonderfully sophisticated patina. A gorgeous 19th century French trumeau. Framed in mahogany and rosewood, a beautiful oil on board painting of a warm coastal scene is fixed above the mirror. The beveled mirror may be more recent to the piece. Cleaned and polished with French wax, the wood gleams with its original warm tones. This Swedish Empire style trumeau exudes a simple refinement in its symmetry and composure. A simple pediment sits atop a painted black and decorative gilt cornice. The top portion is painted black and embellished with a decorative cast brass piece of ormolu. Bright wood frames the whole and sports a fantastic patina. Light signs of foxing are visible in the original mirror plate. Complementary to the top, the bottom is also painted black and fixed with floral ormolu. Circa 1820. This lovely trumeau is from 19th century Sweden. It has a great organic feel with its bright natural wood shining through. The top section is painted black and ornamented with symmetrical floral brass ormolu. The mirror plate itself is more recent and surrounded by painted black squares with small ormolu details. Gracing the bottom is a beautiful brass candlestick holder that adds even more of an antique feel. Circa 1830.

This fine painted trumeau mirror is from 19th century France and has its original mirror plate with aging. It is from a larger boiserie collection. The musical motif suggests it was once hanging in a music parlor. The mirror glass is 28-½”H x 16-¼”W.

A large, stunning trumeau dating back to the Louis XV period in France, c. 1760’s. Typical of the period, the trumeau has Rococo style tastefully carved accents which house the double stacked mercury glass mirrors (since glass was unable to be made in large sheets at the time) and a painting featuring a French countryside. The wonderful oil painting shows excellent talent. Most likely this trumeau was a part of a custom wall design or boiserie.
