  • French 19th Century Cut Glass Sugar Caddy

    $145.00

    5.50"H x 5"W x 5"D

    Dimensions: 5 ½” H x 5” W x 5” D

An elegant late 19th century French sugar bowl/caddy in a cut glass vessel fitted with a silver-plated lid and handle. Intended to serve sugar or perhaps a kind of jam with style and sophistication, the shallow body is hand-crafted from clear, faceted glass with little foliate and snowflake designs interspersed with scrolling motifs etched across. The lid does not have a notch to accommodate a spoon, using a ball finial to lift. Small hallmark of an archer and a series of numbers to one side of the rim. The thin handle adds a delicate touch; it swings easily, enhancing the character and charm of this special serving piece. Perfectly fine to continue using at the table or displayed as a decorative accent, this antique sugar bowl brings an old world sophistication to any setting (and collection) of tea & coffee service. Note the base is heavily scratched from time and use, please view the detailed images to the current condition.

  • Portuguese 19th Century Glazed Terracotta Bowl

    $395.00

    4.63"H x 13.25"W x 13.25"D

    Dimensions: 4 ⅝” H x 13 ¼” W x 13 ¼” D

An inspiring example of 19th century Portuguese folk art pottery, this handmade terracotta bowl expresses the unique history of decorative arts traditions found across the Iberian peninsula which borrowed imagery from cultures far and wide. Crafted in terracotta and finished with a buttery gold slip glaze, the bowl features whimsical (if not symbolic) crosshatched pyramids in burnt orange, and parallel lines dividing the interior into four quadrants occupied by dark green wave motifs. The ruffled “pie crust” rim is gently pinched to round out the decorative effects, but like similar fajalauza bowls from Spain this piece would have been used regularly in the kitchen and not just to display. Patina as expected with some loss to the glaze, bringing warmth and authenticity to any interior or ceramics collection. Please view the detailed images to see more.

  • French 19th Century Glazed Cream Bowl

    $450.00

    7.63"H x 17"W x 16.63"D

    Dimensions: 7 ⅝” H x 17” W x 16 ⅝” D

A lovely glazed terra cotta cream bowl from 19th century France. This earthen bowl, also known as a pancheon, was used to stand milk while the cream separates. The cream is then poured off the top with the small spout found on the pot’s lip. This antique bowl is in excellent condition, appropriately glazed a butter-yellow on the interior and a soft matte exterior. This glaze was not only a decorative choice but prevented the milk from being absorbed by the terra cotta. Today, this wonderful bowl would make a fantastic fruit bowl or decorative object around the home. Please view the detailed images to see the current condition.
