A 19th century French green glass wine keg, or carboy as they are properly called, having a cylindrical form and short neck. Originally used for storing wine and other liquids, demijohns make great decorative accessories around the home for their colors and shapes, used as vases to complement greenery and dried flowers. The unfinished cut at the top rim is original from being mouth-blown; rolling of the hot glass creates the swirls and sometimes bubbles that give these antique vessels their charm.
