A 19th century French green glass wine keg, or carboy as they are properly called, having a cylindrical form and short neck. Originally used for storing wine and other liquids, demijohns make great decorative accessories around the home for their colors and shapes, used as vases to complement greenery and dried flowers. The unfinished cut at the top rim is original from being mouth-blown; rolling of the hot glass creates the swirls and sometimes bubbles that give these antique vessels their charm. An architectural, Empire-style mantel mirror from France with some light foxing throughout the original mercury mirror plate. The carved mahogany has gained a fine patina, composed of a wide cornice over a low arch above the glass. To the sides are detached, fully formed columns accented with bright, cast brass capitals and bases that leads the eye into the reflection within the mirror plate.
