A stunning Louis Philippe burl walnut buffet a deux corps from 1880’s France. The walnut is burled, richly toned and has acquired a beautiful patina over its lifetime. The tall upper body has two lockable doors that conceal a storage cavity that is outfitted with three fixed shelves. These long doors have walnut panels with moulded trim which is canted in the corners. The lower body has three drawers, the outer drawers being lockable, set above two lockable doors that close before another interior storage cavity that furnishes a single fixed shelf. The three drawers are equipped with hand-carved, recessed pulls, and all doors have hand-carved wooden escutcheons. This tall case piece is impressively sized and extremely handsome.

A divine 19th century mahogany secrétaire à abattant from France, circa 1810. This desk has an exceptional black marble top resting above a single drawer disguised into the apron. Just underneath is another more visible top drawer with polished brass lion’s head pulls and striking brass shield escutcheons that feature paired griffons. These stylized escutcheons follow down to be found on the bottom drawers and one key is included for all five functioning locks. Under both top drawers the front of the desk folds forward to reveal a work area inset with vibrant orange leather elegantly detailed with gold tooling. The leather is in great antique condition making this a comfortable place to work. When open, you can see the theatre is equipped with five drawers with round brass sunburst pulls and a large open cubby partitioned with arches and columns with the center housing carved stairs that can be removed to reveal a private storage space. With the desk down the maximum depth is 22 ½”; the writing surface is 34 ¼” W x 30”H. This Empire-style secretary features eye-catching bookmatched mahogany and traditional neoclassical columns down each side with decorative brass capitals and bases. Below the marble top are three easy-to-use, paneled and trimmed drawers that feature centered cast brass rosettes surrounded by circular drop pulls with neoclassical detailing. A gorgeous demilune enfilade crafted in France during the 1880s. This piece is all about the Empirically styled details and distinctive burl veneer. The original stunning marble top is shaped to fit the base. The apron houses four drawers with swan and floral drop ring pulls. Each drawer is lined with green felt and the two center drawers feature permanent organization that’s perfect for serving utensils. All of the lower doors unlock to reveal a removable, finished shelf. The burled mahogany veneer has been repaired in some places, adding to its antique charm without taking away from the quality of the whole.
