Made in France, this awesome case piece is topped in black and charcoal-colored marble slab with hints of white and beige that, along with the body, has patinated wonderfully over the decades. A hidden drawer, free of any hardware, resides in the commode’s apron. The mahogany veneer has been thoughtfully bookmatched, creating an even and balanced appearance. Iconic of the Empire style, two ornate columns flank the bank of drawers, each having decorative brass capitals and bases. Brass escutcheon plates and knobs grace three of the commode’s drawer fronts. A single key works all three locks. The whole is raised on simple bun feet.

A handsome Empire style walnut commode from 19th century France, topped with a striking piece of antique white marble. The apron contains a flush drawer without any hardware. A bank of three main drawers each feature a pair of circular cast brass pulls for easy access and a floral escutcheon. No keys are present. Column forms with brass capitals and bases flank the drawers. The whole is raised on bullet shaped feet. The vibrant walnut and marble have gained a great patina over the last decades.
French 18th Century Bombe Commode

This French bombe chest from the 1780’s is a unique find. Fixed with the original red-ocher, shaped marble top with a molded edge. A very small, older repair to one of the marbles’ corners is barely visible. This commode’s mixed woods are beautifully displayed on all three drawers and both sides. There are book-matched details throughout the piece, giving it wonderful symmetry. Incredible brass folate inspired ormolu pulls and escutcheons elegantly complement the overall design. This French 19th century commode features fantastic Empire style elements. Topped with a removable piece of black fossil marble that features a few worn nicks around its outer edge. All three bookmatched mahogany drawers feature matching cast brass ormolu escutcheons depicting a pair of griffins supporting a flowering vase. One key is included for all three functioning locks, which serves as the drawers’ pull. Tapered rectangular columns on each side showcase a detailed female bust on top and human feet at the bottom. Scandinavian 19th Century Satinwood Commode | Desk

A stunning Scandinavian commode with a fold-down secretary desk housed in its top drawer. The top is in great condition with miniscule visible wear. Although narrow, the apron features a pediment with an ebonized triangle to accentuate the shape. You can see the attention to detail when the top drawer front is opened to reveal the secretary work space, finished in bird’s eye maple. A pair of small brass buttons on the interior operates the top release. 13 drawers of varying size provide an abundance of organizational space. Diminutive ivory pulls are fixed to each drawer as well as a decorative gallery with ivory supports showcased in the center. A bank of three drawers with ebinozided receded diamonds with a key hole in the center. All four locks are functioning- one key is included. More recessed ebonized shapes flank the drawers and compliment the vibrant satinwood. When the desk is open the maximum depth is 31-¼” and the work surface is 33”H. French Vintage Marble Top Demilune Chest

This striking little demilune chest features exceptional inlaid mahogany in varying varieties that have been thoughtfully book matched and placed about the chest to maximize the beauty expressed through its grain. Made in France in 1965, this vintage chest was created in the style of Louis XVI and underwent a refinishing in November of 2009. This restoration is documented in writing beneath the half moon piece of Breche d’Alep marble which tops the chest, along with the maker’s signature “Vecnissage par H.B.B Maco 1965”. Two shaped drawers are housed within the chest and bedecked with cast brass pulls and escutcheons. There are no keys present. Beautiful cast brass ormolu can also be found about the front feet, apron and flanking the bank of drawers.

Three lower drawers each feature a pair of highly decorative cast brass pulls with a beautiful floral motif and simple brass inset keyholes. No key is present for this piece. Recently cleaned and polished with French wax paste; the bookmatched mahogany veneer has gained a warm patina. There is some minor wear to the drawer edges, adding to its antique charm. A stunning Louis Philippe style mahogany commode with a fold-down secretary desk housed in its top drawer. Its gray and charcoal marble top has rounded front corners and a fantastic visual texture, complimented by its exceptional mahogany finish. The drawer fronts are bookmatched, making a striking and symmetrical mahogany pattern. The top drawer / desk unit does not lock. You can see the attention to detail when the top drawer front is opened to reveal the secretary work space, finished in bird’s eye maple. A small brass button to the left operates the top release. The drawer front folds down, creating a work surface topped in black leather with gold tooling detail around the perimeter. Four drawers with knobs and a pigeon hole for storage are found inside the secretary. A bank of three drawers can be found below, with the top lock not functioning, and the lower two in working order. Hidden at the bottom of this piece is a large drawer, pulled open by placing your hand just below the front edge of the lower apron. A fabulous French mahogany commode from 19th century France, circa 1840’s. The stunning gray and white marble top with rounded front corners is in good antique condition with few signs of wear. The apron houses a hidden drawer, free of hardware. Making up the body of the piece, three larger drawers have more recently been fixed with a pair of laurel wreath cast brass drop ring pulls for easy accessibility to the drawers. Cleaned with French wax paste and easy to open- all three drawers are inset with brass trim encircling the unadorned key-holes. Every drawer features a working lock; one key is included. The bookmatched drawer fronts showcase the unique grain patterns of the mahogany. Over 150 years of everyday use have left signs of wear of the facade, giving it a wonderful patina.
