French 19th Century Louis Philippe Walnut Dough Bin Buffet
Dimensions: 42-1/2″H x 61-1/2″W x 24-3/8″D
This Louis Philippe hand-carved walnut dough bin, or pétrin, buffet, c. 1850, is from France and features a removable top which slides forward to reveal the compartment where traditionally flour and yeast were poured, mixed and proofed to grow into a nice dough. The two beaded and paneled doors, with brass escutcheons and keys, open to a single shelf with concave cut-outs for easy access to items on the bottom shelf or for storage of taller sundries. The whole is raised on stepped and chamfered block feet. Time and proper care have afforded the beautiful walnut a rich patina and this piece will add an elegant provincial touch to any kitchen or dining space.
