French Early 20th Century Demilune Mahogany Desserte
$4,200.00
Dimensions: 40 3/8″ H x 56 1/2″ W x 19 5/8″ D
Merging style components of both Directoire and Louis XVI periods, this wonderful antique mahogany desserte was made in France, towards the beginning of the 20th century. The case piece has a beautifully shaped demilune piece of marble placed atop that matches its unique, curved sides. The desserte is finished in a rich, brown birds-eye mahogany. The apron houses three drawers. A wide center drawer is flanked by two smaller drawers that curve with the body, and all three have working locks. Their keyholes are incorporated into the beaded-pearl-motif cast-brass escutcheon drop-ring pulls. Each drawer is positioned above a door of similar width, with the outer two having curved panel fronts. All doors have working locks that secure the antique’s interior. The interior has a single adjustable shelf that extends the width of the desserte. Short, tapered feet have fluted carvings and lift the case piece 7” from the ground. The shallow depth of the console makes it unintrusive, as it hugs the wall nicely and does not extend out into the room.
