French 19th Century Directoire Fauteuil
$2,800.0034.50"H x 21"W x 21.25"D
Dimensions: 34 ½” H x 21” W x 21 ¼” D
A majestic French 19th century Directoire fauteuil armchair in charming patinated finish that reveals at least three layers of different colors painted over the carved wood frame. Currently the upholstery is a linen or linen-blend hopsack in tan, outlined by a nailhead trim. A seat cushion is removable for easy maintenance which is in worn but good condition to continue using. Small rosettes decorate the arms and junction of the legs which have fine, turned rings to accentuate their svelte profile. $3,200.0032.25"H x 21.63"W x 19.63"D
Dimensions: 32 ¼” H x 21 ⅝” W x 19 ⅝” D
A pair of Swedish Biedermeier armchairs from circa 1820 in birch that expresses the most extraordinary patterns (which occur naturally in the wood) but have been revealed by the skilled hand of the artisan. Seats are currently upholstered in a heavyweight twill material of complementary faded brick tone that is in worn condition but acceptable to continue using. Pair of Danish Biedermeier Armchairs
$3,200.0036.25"H x 23.50"W x 21"D
Dimensions: 36 ¼” H x 23 ½” W x 21” D
Danish, early 20th century pair of Biedermeier armchairs made during the reign of Christian X (1912-1947). The chair frames are crafted from satin birch with natural luminosity like gold to shimmer in the light, revealing fine grain patterns. A carved backrest incorporates the familiar “shovel” design of early Viennese Biedermeier chairs in a gently arching shape ending in exaggerated lobes, finished on the underside by a half-circle fan including angular ridges of a stylized scallop shell. Resembling a fauteuil, the graceful arms of the chair project forward in a gentle slope before curling inward. The front legs rise above the seat and are crowned with ebonized spheres where they intersect with the arms. Current upholstery of a cream and sage green striped sateen material is in fair condition showing a few stains but would be acceptable to continue using. Note the wood has been gently cleaned and polished with a French paste wax to reveal its brilliance. Please view the detailed images to see more. Sold as a pair.

Dimensions: 19 ½” H x 53 ⅜” W x 14” D

Note the presence of two iron locks still intact but neither key is present. Side planks with triangular notches cut out (to suggest feet) elevate the trunk from the floor. Cleaned and polished with a French paste wax–ready for your interior. Please view the detailed images to see more.

Austrian 19th Century Set of Four Biedermeier Chairs
$2,850.0034.75"H x 17.50"W x 17.50"D
Dimensions: 34 ¾” H x 17 ½” W x 17 ½” D
An extraordinary group of four Biedermeier walnut “shovel chairs” in the style of Josef Danhauser (Vienna, Austria) circa 1815. Each backrest is ebonized around the edge for a dramatic contrast to the amber-gold tones of the frame. Evidence of spalting within some of the maple frames is another naturally occurring phenomenon that adds further visual interest to the ensemble. The seats appear to be more recently upholstered in a striped fabric of gold with tiny white dots, offering both comfort and another element of refinement. Note the cushions are removable, facilitating easy maintenance or future reupholstery. Sturdy chair bases feature clean-lined flat legs on the front and slightly sabered legs to the back. The sheltering seat interior is tightly upholstered across the back and arms with two square, loose seat cushions for easy maintenance. The down-wrapped cushions remain plush and very comfortable to relax or converse. Fluted, tapering legs (classic Louis XVI) elevate the seat from the floor to have a regal presence in any room while keeping a relaxed atmosphere. Set of Six Josef Hoffmann Style Secessionist Chairs
Dimensions: 31 ¼” H x 23 ⅞” W x 22 ⅞” D
A fantastic set of Josef Hoffmann Vienna Secession style chairs. These chairs feature bentwood construction with attractive simple, clean lines and plenty of negative space. Pierced ladder backs, side stretchers and wide barrel shapes, key design elements of Josef Hoffman style furniture, are present in this set. Striking with glossy black bentwood components offset by seats and backs upholstered in buttery soft yellow, faux elephant skin sueded fabric. Very comfortable. Would work well with retro or modern decor. No maker’s marks or labels. Circa 1960. Be sure to view all the images to get a closer look at these unique and fabulous Hoffmann chairs. Seat height 16 ⅜”.
