French Vintage Verre Églomisé Mirror with Phoenix Pattern

A dazzling French vintage mirror of églomisé design in the border panels featuring stylized herons and mythical phoenix known as a Ho-Oh bird. The delicate imagery of historic references to Chinoiserie and Japonisme are a lovely contrast to the rectilinear geometry of the glass plates in concave arrangement that draws the viewer in. Scrolled patterns and foliate motifs extend from the avian illustration hovering in the centers: the phoenix imagery on the top and bottom panels with a crane to the left and right all oriented for hanging in the vertical position. Rather modest proportions allow this mirror to find a home in many different rooms and decorating styles. We believe this item to be in good antique condition considering its age, and any visible signs of wear are captured in the photos. An English black tole box from the late 19th century decorated with Chinoiserie references like costumed figures, willow trees, and birds. This small rectangular case bears a charming antique patina, exposing some of the silver metal beneath the layers of paint, opening to a (most unexpected) pink interior divided into two sections.
