    Dimensions: 31-¾”H x 23-⅜”D

A delightful pair of staddlestones, c. 1780, that will add plenty of charm to your garden! Staddlestones, or stone mushrooms, date back to the medieval period and were originally used as supporting bases for granaries, hayricks, etc. The staddle stones lifted the granaries above the ground protecting the stored grain from vermin and water seepage. The upwardly tapering form and overlapping capstone make it almost impossible for a rodent to climb up and into the hay or grain stored above. The air could freely circulate beneath the stored crops and this helped to keep it dry. They differ only slightly in size- the taller measuring 31-¾”H x 23-⅜”Diameter; the shorter measuring 30-½”H x 22-¾”Diameter. Tops are removable. Sold as a pair only.

    $865.00

    31"H x 15"W x 15"D

    Dimensions: 31”H x 15”W x 15”D

A remarkable Victorian-era English terracotta chimney pot. This antique architectural element serves as both decorative and functional additions to traditional chimney flues. During the 1800s, coal was used more and more to heat homes, however the smoke that it produced was thick and toxic. Heightening one’s chimney increases its draw, removing this unwanted pollutant from interiors more quickly. Multiple indoor fireplaces was a luxury afforded to those with means, and these toppers would often be indicative of an estate’s socioeconomic status. The more intricately designed pots were more expensive and therefore prized by those that wished to project their wealth by ornamenting their homes with beautiful embellishments to their fireplace smokestacks. The worn black and white paint adds so much character to the design. Most were not painted, making this one particularly stylish. One of the crown’s tines have been lost, adding to its antique charm. Today, they can still function as intended, however their excellent patination and form make for exceptional garden ornaments and/or decorative objects.

Antique Garden Decor From Fireside Antiques

What’s better to complete a garden than a classical French water fountain or Italian marble pedestal? Not only does an antique piece bring history and elegance to your garden or yard, but it provides a conversation piece for guests to admire, as well.

While you might think that antiques need to be kept indoors to retain their charming appearances, this isn’t true of our curated set of antique garden decor items. We source the most appealing stone, metal, wood, and glass decorations from across England and France for use right in your garden or even indoors if you would prefer.

Many of the urns, jars, and vases we offer make excellent planters for exotic flowers, while our stone finials and statues add character just by being in your garden. After all, what’s a relaxing garden or outdoor space without a pensive human sculpture to look at as you enjoy the greenery?

Keep in mind that the vintage items we stock change constantly. Often, no two of the same item come through our doors. If you see something that strikes your fancy, make sure to snatch it up quickly because you may never see another like it again!

Authentic Outdoor Garden Decor

With our hand-curated selection of garden sculptures and garden decor, you’ll never have to worry about your precious antiques standing up to the outdoor elements. Often, our items have already lived much of their lives outdoors, and the weathering of the elements only makes them more charming.

Your antiques don’t need to look weathered to be charming, though, even if placed in your garden. Many of our antiques are hand-painted or stained instead of being left in their natural state. This layer will protect the item’s charm and attractiveness for years to come, especially if you protect it by placing it on your front porch instead of in the heart of your garden.

Not sure what antique items to add to your green space? You can check Fireside Antiques’ antique garden decor page for plenty of inspiration. Even something as simple as a small stone finial in the corner of your garden can be enough to change the ambiance of the entire area.

Of course, if you want to create the perfect outdoor garden space for relaxing and unwinding, the key isn’t to overwhelm it with plants and flowers. Instead, a delicate balance between decor and plants is often more meaningful. Fortunately, our garden decor ranges from Art Deco to Victorian and even Industrial finishes to help you complete your unique look.
