    This newly composed pair of consoles were recently crafted from 19th Century iron panels from Europe and topped with a fabulous piece of charcoal stone with white veining. The iron was painted a vibrant green once and has gained a perfect patina. Their unique design and hooked tops indicated they were likely once part of a larger fence or gate. Centered between the hook forms is the unmistakable gorgon head depicting Medusa. We recommend placing this console inside or undercover. Sold as a pair only.     A fabulous Savonarola chair with perfectly worn red velvet cushions with quality tassel ties. Decorative brass finials contrast the hand forged iron frames beautifully. The bottom and arm cushion contains the original mohair filling and remains quite comfortable. The curvy stretcher adds to the shapely body and provides continued support and finish at brass ball-and-claw feet. The cushion is removable and the seat height is 17-¼”.     A handsome and impressive French commode from the 1780’s. Made of solid oak, this case piece is simply designed from the Louis XVI style. The drawers have intricately hand carved designs of birds and flowers with more recent drawer pulls. All joints are tightened and cleaned. The drawers function properly and slide with ease.     An extraordinary mahogany and marble topped Restauration console – constructed in massive scale – from early 20th century, France. The beautiful piece of antique gray marble has white veins running throughout and rounded front corners which are reflected in the body. This wonderful stone does have a break, which had been professionally repaired prior to our sourcing the antique in France. This can be viewed in the detailed photos.  The console has been finished with mahogany veneer. Scrolled supports brace the top and serve as the table’s front legs, which end in incredibly-carved paw feet. The back is supported with two more simply-finished legs, as they are meant to sit flat against a wall. The console’s plinth base is patinated and raised slightly by cylindrical feet in the front and rectangular feet in the back.

    A fabulous rouge marble top is the perfect top for this stunning transitional French mahogany enfilade. The mahogany case antique has a unique style of its own: incorporating elements of both Louis XVI and Directoire styles. Three drawers can be found in the apron, all with brass bail handles. They are positioned above two interior cavities which vary in size: a smaller to the right and a larger to the left. Both are concealed behind lockable doors. Two keys are included for all three working locks. The smaller compartment has three adjustable shelves. The larger has two adjustable shelves. All drawers and panel doors are trimmed in brass. The drawers are separated by fluted pilasters that run to the case antique’s skirt. The entire enfilade is lifted by six finished, tapered legs which are capped in brass feet.

    An amazing painted hall bench – teeming with charm – from 19th century England. The large antique has panels with diagonally oriented wooden slats which were painted green many decades ago. The frame is finished in a dark/black paint that can still be found about the weathered wood. The seat has been left in its natural state, and a comfortable seat it is! Two drawers are hung from the bench’s bottom which have also had their fronts painted green. Their metal hardware has been painted as well. The front legs and front arm posts have been turned, and along with the rest of the bench’s frame, has patinated marvelously over the years, contributing to the bench’s overall antique, English charm. c. 1880. There are three more drawers below with ornate pulls and escutcheons. A pair of columns sit on either side of the drawers. All sit on a thick plinth base with wide, raised feet.     A wonderful walnut secretary desk.  The desk can be separated into two bodies: the lower writing surface, and the upper glass-front cabinet.  The writing surface is covered in beautiful black, tooled leather and can be pulled out for additional work space.  The writing surface has a height of 29-½”H and the knee clearance is 26-⅝”H.  The base also contains two drawers with working locks and a single key.  Above the writing surface is a little cubby with a whimsical scalloped frame flanked by two drawers on each side.  The drawers all have a round brass knob.  The top has two glass-front bookcase doors with original glass and working lock and latch.  The cabinet has two adjustable shelves.  The secretary is lifted by four brilliantly turned legs.

    An absolutely stunning hand-carved, hand-pegged walnut armoire.  A large Louis Philippe-style crown cornice sits just above a carved Directoire-style frieze.  Two large, Louis XV-style shaped doors equipped with a working lock and latch are hung on barrel hinges.  They are decorated with fabulously carved, shaped panels with a central fluted pilaster between.  The interior is outfitted with four fixed shelves and measures 20-¼”D.  The apron features a modest central circular cartouche with a floral center and a shaped edge with lines that continue onto the impressive escargot feet.

     

     

  • Indian 19th Century Teak and Iron-Bound Trunk

    This 19th century, Anglo-Indian solid teak trunk with original iron bindings has aged beautifully.  It has a striking patina with fantastic texture and grain.  The hinged top has two forged iron hasps that would have been pinned close with an iron or steel pin.  When open, a single chain holds the lid, preventing it from falling back.  There is a single forged handle on either side of the box.  This iron-bound box originates in the Northern Indian state Rajasthan.

    This 18th Century, mixed wood French armoire is absolutely stunning.  It is Gothic-style and features two tall, paneled doors on barrel hinges.  One key operates the locking right door and acts as a pull.  The left door latches from the inside to keep it in place when closed.  This piece tells a story from inside the left door, as it has years of faded markings from growing children, some with dates and names.  Just behind the doors are four fixed shelves.  The crown and base of this armoire are oak while the body is fruitwood.  The detail continues with three paneled sides, soft curved corners and two large bun feet on the front.  Throughout its long life, the wood finish has acquired a patina that is simply amazing and has an undeniable antique quality.  Impeccable craftsmanship and detail show with hand pegged joinery.

    This lovely, mahogany gueridon is from France and features a Breche d’Alep marble top with brass gallery, over an apron outfitted with two locking drawers operated by a single key.  The apron is trimmed with a brass band around the bottom.  Four, round tapering and fluted legs have brass ormolu ornamentation inset into the flutes along with brass bands around the top and bottom of each leg.  Each leg is connected by a stretcher connecting at the center with a final.  The whole sits on turned feet with brass casters.

    A fantastic Provincial buffet – made of quarter sawn oak – from 1780s France. This beautiful solid oak case antique features exceptional decorative carvings, all done by hand, that are found on antiques dating to the countryside in this time period. Influenced by Louis XV, the design utilizes the sinuous lines found in that style, but lacks the asymmetry and grandiosity associated with LXV antiques. This tall buffet has three drawers that are set over two locking doors. The doors are hung on brass barrel hinges and have shaped brass escutcheons. The interior has a single fixed shelf. The rounded corners are bedecked with hand-carved details, along with the shapley skirt. The sinuous lines found along the skirt continue onto the short cabriole feet that lift the tall case antique.

    A large pine shop counter, sourced from a store in France. The counter dates to 1870 and has had a long and lustrous career and is ready for retirement. The counter has clearly worn a few different coats of paint, with the most recent being a straw-colored yellow. Over time, these finishes have become worn, moreso in high-traffic areas, exposing the natural pine beneath. The countertop has a painted faux-marble top which has some losses. Behind the counter, you’ll find four drawers, the smallest having a working lock. One end of the counter has a hamper-style lid that can be lifted to access additional storage space. Today, the counter would make an exceptional bar for the style-conscious entertainer.

It is upholstered in a striped and floral silk fabric that was present when the antique was purchased in the Netherlands. The settee’s seat can pull out to reveal a hidden storage area.

The butcher block rests on a stylish pine base that has been influenced by the Art Deco movement that was occurring at the time of its construction. The base has a large drawer and the maker’s badge that has his name, R. Lerat, and even his shop’s address at 18 R’de Bouville in Nantes, France.

A demilune quarter sawn oak plinth base provides the foundation for this grand French server.

    A striking Italian ebony table, made in the 19th century, with an inset top of rust-colored Scagliola stone. The tabletop is trimmed in a mirrored carved twist motif that runs the entire perimeter. The table’s most noticeable feature is the barley twist legs that have been masterfully turned, much like the phenomenal stretcher that connects them. This ornate stretcher is further decorated with a beautiful urn finial placed where the supports intersect. The ebony finish gleams with its fresh wax and polishing, and will for years to come.
