French 19th Century Louis XVI-Style Rosewood Bibliothèque
Dimensions: 96-1/2″H x 54″W x 22-1/2″D
This stately bibliothèque, made in France, c. 1870’s, has a gorgeous patina that only rosewood can impart. The upper case has a carved cornice and paneled apron above two bead-carved and glazed doors, which retain their original wavy glass and are flanked by carved ionic pilasters, open up to three adjustable shelves – perfect for books or a collection of items. The case below, outfitted with two pull-out writing surfaces with turned knobs, features two carved and paneled doors which open to reveal a single adjustable shelf. Two of the doors, one upper and one lower, have brass faux escutcheons. Each door of this beautiful antique is decorated with carved rosettes and the whole rests on pad feet.
