A brilliant pair of gold gilt fauteuils, made in France towards the beginning of the 19th century. The pair has been more recently upholstered in a silk fabric depicting fruiting branches. These Louis XV armchairs have a carved frame that is finished in wonderfully preserved, lustrous gold gilt. Sinuous lines, hallmarks of the classic Louis XV design, are incorporated into the chair’s rails, with lovely cabriole legs emerging from them and terminating in escargot feet.

A large three-tier server, made in France circa 1890. The server is demilune in shape, giving it a distinct, finished presence. The front has two breaks where expertly turned columns provide support for the two upper shelves. It has been constructed using a combination of quarter sawn oak and fruitwood, which have been formed into panels that create the buffet’s back. A demilune quarter sawn oak plinth base provides the foundation for this grand French server.

A gorgeous French 19th century Louis XVI-style center table, topped with a beautiful piece of Breche d’Alep marble. The shaped marble top is shaped to fit the walnut base. The table’s apron has mirrored running coin carvings that extend from the centrally located bouquet of roses carved into each of the table’s long sides. Four turned legs extend from Louis XVI joinery dies found at the table’s corners. They have been embellished with twisted carvings and are braced by a concave stretcher below. The ornate stretcher has a carved finial found at its axis. c.1890.

A wonderfully aged French provincial pine folding table, with a numismatic (coin collecting) twist, circa 1900. American and European coins have more recently been inlaid into the table’s top in a most-interesting manner. The coins lie flush with the surface and are held in place with numerous nails that surround each coin. Both the coins and pine top have an antiqued patina that fills this unique antique with charm. The table has braced legs that can be folded for easier transport. Forged iron supports guide the legs when folding the table, and two metal latches can be used to keep them securely tucked away.

A stunning oak coffer from the early part of the 19th century, France. This wonderful trunk has a design reminiscent of Jacobean design, however is more recent. Beautiful moulded walnut trim frames the front and sides with other trim fashioned into geometric shapes. These lovely embellishments give this coffer a unique style that is all its own. It is lifted by four feet that have been styled in the same fashion as feet found on many Louis Philippe pieces. Patinated cut-steel escutcheons and drop bail handles can be found on the coffer’s front. The perfect blanket chest for the end of a bed. c.1830.

The white porcelain face has hand-painted Roman numerals. The clock chimes on the hour, and once on the half hour. A stunning, large brass table scale, made near the turn of the century, England. The scale is no longer operational, but still makes an mighty impact on a space. The scale is made of brass, with two copper weigh pans. The shaped arms support the hanging pans, attached by linked brass strands. As seen in the detailed photos, each copper pan has been stamped numerous times with a seal, bearing a year, surrounded by Greek letters. The English crown can also be seen stamped into the copper. These dates signify when the scale was last calibrated. The brass column shaft sits atop a brass pedestal, which sits atop stacked brass, which sits upon a piece of gray marble. The entire scale is lifted by brass ball feet. The scale includes the weights with which it is pictured.

A lovely glazed terra cotta cream bowl from 19th century France. This earthen bowl, also known as a pancheon, was used to stand milk while the cream separates. The cream is then poured off the top with the small spout found on the pot’s lip. This antique bowl is in excellent condition, with both handles intact. The interior has been glazed a beautiful ochre yellow. This glaze prevented the milk from being absorbed by the terra cotta. Today, this wonderful bowl would make a fantastic fruit bowl or decorative object about the house.

During the warmer months, when fireplaces were not in use, pole screens would hide or at least decorate unsightly, soot-filled fireboxes. A framed needlework depicting a pastoral scene with felled tree is supported by a mahogany pole that allows the screen to be moved up or down. The pole has a decorative turned end that rests on a mahogany tripodal base and showing some wear from use. An elegant antique work of art.

19th Century French Painted Wine Corker

This unique apparatus has a lot to do with the history and shaping of French history and culture: the wine bottle corker. This green painted wine corker, made around 1890, was used in a winery in Bordeaux. Wine production is intrinsic to French culture and is taken very seriously. Many aspects of French winemaking have remained unchanged for centuries. Great pride is taken in the wines produced in each growing region. Once a vineyard’s grapes have been harvested, pressed, and aged, the resulting wine will be bottled and finally sealed with a cork, using an iron wine corker just like this one.

Closer inspection reveals carefully carved wood torches that are finished in a warm, calm antique white as well as numerous carved wood tassels and clear drop crystals. The iron surfaces have an aged, rusty patina.

French Bouillotte lamp with its original painted tole shade. Bouillotte is a card game, popular in France during the 18th & 19th centuries. For light, they would use a bouillotte lamp. This particular one is brass with 3 candelabra arms, now U.S.. wired. As the candles would burn down one would use a key, where the shade connects the middle shaft, to lower the shade as the candles burned down. Allowing the players to be free of glare. 1880’s or earlier.

This small, decorative table lamp has been fashioned using an ornate bronze column that rests on a square marble base. The column’s shaft features a gnarly tree with sparrows circling in pursuit of its precious fruit. The column’s base is decorated with layered peacock feathers and atop its capital rests a small, square piece of marble that matches the base. The lamp has been cleaned and newly wired for US. White linen shade.
