French 19th Century Chestnut Coffee Table
Dimensions: 20 1/2″H x 51 1/2″W x 29″D
A French provincial chestnut coffee table from 19th century France. Two thick, solid chestnut boards comprise the top of this exceptional low table. These boards contain marvelous burl and grains that can be found throughout the tabletop. The table’s apron houses a single drawer, providing some out of sight storage. The drawer has a handsome façade, with a modest brass pull. The table has been constructed using peg and hole joinery: a technique used for centuries as a consequence of its effectiveness at producing furniture of quality. The four legs are resolute and hefty, with wonderful chamfered corners. c.1870.
