The wood planks forming the top surface are arranged into three, nearly square panels for a sense of order and geometry compared to the fine grain patterns of the walnut. Within the deep apron, each long side contains six drawers where the sisters would have kept their dinner service–which is a great feature to benefit the modern interior where storage is ideally out-of-sight but convenient to retrieve. Three pairs of legs hold up the mass of the table that are turned and tapered in a stack of rings. A vintage 20th century French washstand of white marble top with backsplash over a mahogany-tone (oak) storage cabinet including two drawers. While this piece may have originally been intended as a vanity to wash up at, the beauty and practicality of the marble surface makes it adaptable to other areas of the home like a kitchen or dining room as a dry bar and small buffet. The lightly patinated stone surface rises along the back to form a low backsplash, finished by a narrow shelf above (4 ½” deep) that is supported on beautifully carved brackets to the left and right sides. Light surface scratches are found on the marble due to age and use.
