This stately 19th Century English porcelain meat platter features a scalloped rim, embossed deep draining channels, and is replete with basting well at one end. Raised upon integral feet to base. High gloss glaze overall with a decorative crane on the rim of the platter. On the reverse is the mark “Maple and Co. London” with imprinted numbering. Maple and Co. was one of the largest and most successful British furniture and decorative arts retailers in the late 19th Century. An additional imprint of a Caduceus, the registered trademark by Powell and Bishop, an English china and earthenware manufacturer (1876-1891) helps to date this piece to the Edwardian era. In excellent antique condition with minimal wear. This decorative serving plate of generous proportion is ready to display or serve today and will be enjoyed by many generations to come. A large pair of English split-leg Staffordshire poodles from the late 19th century, with sand textured coats to imply their thick hair. Staffordshire Dogs are named so for the area in England they originate, where they have been in production for nearly three centuries to the delight of hearts and homes over many generations. Two seated poodles with painted, expressive eyes, worn gold collar and lock, and (more unusual) split legs. The ears and upper body exhibit a sandy texture to suggest a “Continental clip” that is given by a dog groomer where the hind legs are sheared smooth, which in these examples are indicated by the undecorated ceramic. A striking collection of fourteen (14) vintage plates from Badonviller, France, dating from the early-to-mid 20th century. Note there are two sizes: (6) dinner plates and (8) salad plates featuring bold, red rims decorated with a silhouetted vining floral pattern that wraps the circumference. One salad plate differs slightly in its floral design from the rest, which is nearly imperceptible in the group. Condition as expected from time and use with small flea bite chips. A pair of French Empire period Old Paris Porcelain vases, circa 1810, with painted landscapes and figural scenes on each side. The Classical amphora profile features a gold-banded mouth at the top, transitioning to the narrow neck and tapering body framed by a pair of handles with low-relief caryatid faces in place of the openings, lifted by square bases all accented in gold gilt trim. The landscape imagery–coordinating but not identical–is of a lush and tranquil environment in an earth tone palette. On the reverse side of each vase are a pair of figures, again that are unique but similar, locked in what appears to be a tense exchange.
