French Gilt Framed Landscape Painting

A dramatic Italian painting on canvas from circa 1820, using the negative space of a black background to make the still-life composition at the center pop with more dimension and intrigue. In the manner of earlier Baroque and Dutch styles, depicted here is a stylized Neoclassical garden urn on pedestal/column with two swans for handles and lions and the foot. Romantic blossoms spill from the mouth of the urn hanging over the figural register which depicts a pair of Greco-Roman characters joined by a cherub. The border around the edges of the stretched canvas is not paint but carefully decoupaged strips of paper in a wavy design of complementary tones. Regarding the appearance: the background shows areas of water spots, craquelure, and separation.We believe this to be in good antique condition considering its age, and any visible signs of wear are captured in the photos. A mid-20th century English oil on canvas still life painting in vintage frame of similar age and condition, signed and dated by the artist, Jacqueline 1968. Against an ethereal background of blue and gray, the floral arrangement at center overflows with bursts of flowers in autumnal tones. The complementary painted wood frame in an ivory tone is illuminated by gilt accents. This small painting will surely command attention in any gallery wall collection but has the presence to stand on its own as well. Ready to hang in your interior. This French early 20th century oil on canvas painting illustrates a modest stone homestead with terracotta roof in a pastoral landscape below an orange tree. The artist’s technique of thin brushstrokes to build layers of nuanced color adds organic texture to the scene, as if one can touch and feel the trees and earth, drawing the viewer in for a closer look. Written on either side of the door is “vale” and “vade” which might be from Latin (and subsequent Romance languages) as a kind of well-wishing/goodbye. Faint signature and date to the lower right. An enchanting French vintage oil on canvas painting that depicts a quaint, autumnal scene of a small village along a stream. With each brushstroke of dappled impasto technique, the talented artist has captured the quality of the light at the time of year, as it filters through the remaining leaves on the tree branches. The buildings to to the left of the embankment are partially shrouded by the repetitive line of trees, including a couple figural representations of the residents. The subject is a young woman with fair hair and skin, her classic Flemish profile set off by a red hat decorated with ostrich feathers and a gaze concentrated toward the left of the scene. Behind her is a surreal landscape of pastel blue, pink, and yellow perhaps the waning hours of daylight. Around her is wrapped a diaphanous pink shawl exposing a gold necklace with a locket, which must have some importance considering the level of detail applied. The subject, a sophisticated woman of a certain age and fair complexion, is illuminated by the sun coming in from the nearby window, forming a corona of her hair as she sits in a blue bergere by an open secretary desk. She stops her correspondence to indulge the artist by sitting for this portrait, her left hand (note the red fingernails matching the red of her lips) holding a book.
