A large dressing armoire produced in France in the 1950s to 1960s, granted an “Ameublement N.F.” label found inside the far right door. This sleek midcentury modern cabinet would work well in a bedroom or serve as a bar, dazzling your guests with the honey-gold wood grain of maple under a glossy finish. The two pairs of doors retain their original mirror plates matched in the center of the case, with slightly bowed panels of wood on the outer left and right. This case piece is modern and stylish with ample storage space. The interior has three fixed shelves on each side, and the right cabinet is also fitted with drawers. There are two working locks each with their own key. Conical legs taper down to sharp points at the floor to give a sense of lightness compared to the generous scale. Note that there are a couple areas of loss on the lower trim, among other signs of daily use left upon the wood. The large, rectilinear volume of the wardrobe is enlivened by a grain-painted faux bois finish of energetic swirls and squiggles that long for more precious woods than the pine construction underneath. This French dark pine bookcase from the late 19th century makes a dramatic statement by its scale alone, and the crackled texture of the painted interior gives it visual intrigue to anchor any kitchen, dining room, library, or office. Below an understated cornice, two tall glass-front doors provide visibility to regard the contents on three shelves (approximately 12 ½” deep) which are adjustable. Note doors are fitted so the right side contains the lock while the left door uses a slide-bolt for security. The panes exhibit the unmistakable wavy surface and bubbles of antique glass. Swedish Gustavian Period Painted Corner Cabinet

This striking corner cabinet from 19th century Sweden is all hand-built and painted with those characteristic details so desirable of Gustavian antiques. The ethereal blue-gray paint is original to the piece and contributes a wonderful patina to harmonize in a number of interior styles. A unique cornice tops the whole, with an angular pediment flanked by scrolled projections on the corners. Fluted details add further depth to the raised panels of the cabinet doors, which are interrupted by a perfect circle in the middle. Inside the (unpainted) pine upper cabinet are three shelves, and the door is secured by a simple wood latch. The small opening at the waist is similarly unpainted, framed by a decorative archway that creates a small niche to store & display. An endearing 18th century Italian hand-painted buffet that departs from the strong visual codes of the Baroque period adopting the relaxed manner of Louis XV and Gustavian polychrome furniture. The tone-on-tone blue cabinet is fitted with two doors on the front side, in between nicely canted corners interrupted by narrow, paneled sections filled with abstract gradients of blue in reference to the sky. The upper surface is a dark slate whereas the majority of the exterior is cerulean. Central panels on the doors have been treated as a cartouche for artistic expression to illustrate what appears to be the casting out of Adam & Eve from the garden of Eden and their circumstances following.
