A magnificent pair of circa 1880 English carved stone garden urns in the form of tazzas, rising from heavy pedestals to install in the garden or patio. They have gained a wonderful patina from over a century of outdoor weathering and, coupled with Neoclassical formality, they command attention in any setting. The circumference of the wide, shallow urns is defined by an egg & dart motif at the lip and beaded rows where they narrow and taper to the foot. Drainage holes pierce the sides of the bowls to use for planting (or drip irrigation) with an interior depth of 5”. The monumental bases feature a square block widening to a stacked foot on the ground, which differ slightly between them from where they were extracted from the original architecture. English 19th Century Bamboo Hall Tree with Fish Decoupage

English late 19th century bamboo hall tree, updated more recently with decoupaged fish over the decorative panels across the middle in keeping with the late Victorian taste for the exotic and unusual. This inspirational fixture of home organization furniture is mounted with three hooks per side on the vertical poles to hang coats or bags, which flank two diamond-shape beveled mirror glass panels across the top. Below, the diagonally placed assemblage of stalks features square panels that have been ebonized (painted) and pasted with seemingly gilded illustrations of various types of fish. In the base, the bamboo stalks have been arranged in a gridded pattern to keep umbrellas or walking sticks upright. French 18th Century Oak Wine Press

This wonderfully patinated 18th century grape press screw (circa 1790) from a winery in France is carved from a solid oak post mounted on a large base that retains the original metal strapping. The shaft would have driven a large stone wheel downward–hence the large opening for the handle–crushing and squeezing grapes, forcing out their juice as the stone rotates across them. The production of wine is tantamount to French culture, and these larger-than-life screws made producing it en masse a possibility. This antique press, with its deep, rich color and texture could be used as a plant stand, display pedestal, or wired as a unique floor lamp. A fabulous 18th century carved stone column from Portugal, best described as Gothic or Romanesque in style, using the familiar acanthus motif around the capital. By the artist’s hands and tools the stone has been shaped to incredible depth within the folds of the leaves as they spread across the circumference. The abacus (the flat top surface) is rather irregular in shape either by time or being extracted from the original architecture. The square plinth base is similarly affected as the top in areas of loss and discoloration, which has been gently cleaned to appreciate the natural color and textures of the stone. Today it would make an extraordinary pedestal to uplift a garden urn or vase whether used inside or on the patio. A magnificent pair of 18th century Portuguese carved pine wall consoles, also called brackets, originally part of the architectural program of a cathedral altar. They have been updated more recently with travertine stone tops for a durable surface that complements the timeless quality of the baroque profile. Deep cornices project with chamfered corners (of which the stone tops are shaped to fit) with a beautiful slope that contours then retreats toward the wall. A finely carved finial inverted from the base reveals foliate carvings to echo the acanthus at the top corners, unifying the look and enhancing its architectural function. Truly these are a remarkable feat of vision and craft. At just over 20” in depth, these floating brackets are a practical solution in lieu of console tables with legs, satisfying both a decorative statement and shelf to display upon. This fabulous needlework–at an ambitious scale–is rendered in earthy shades of taupe and olive with foliate motifs in blues and greens, contrasted by intense red tones on the birds. French 18th Century Forged Iron Andirons

A towering pair of 18th century French forged, wrought iron andiron-chenets to watch over the hearth. They include a small basket at the top for warming, the rim impressed with a geometric pattern that is repeated on the column and contrasted by the twisted detail of the rods. Scrolled elements curl outward from the pillars attaching multiple spit hooks to adjust for cooking temperatures. Decorative scrollwork in between the arched legs are reminiscent of fleur-de-lis to underscore the French-made origins of these sculptural fireplace tools. Designed as a complementary pair, each andiron is the mirror image of the other with an offset hind leg (the bracket to elevate the burning logs) supported by a spike.
