Delineating the upper and lower bodies are two small, retractable shelves that can slide out as needed to place something like a book being removed or filed back in the stacks. The lower body of the unit–protruding slightly beyond the shelves like a “buffet a deux corps”–offers locking cabinets for (less visible) storage and organization.
