A pair of 18th century Louis XV style oak frame chairs. Upholstered with burgundy velvet fabric, the seat height is 16 ¾” without the cushion and 19 ⅛” with the cushion. The caning is in overall great condition, stained to match the rich oak. There is a repair on one of the seats in the caning. Flower carvings on the shaped back beautifully match those on the skirt and legs and there are wonderful paw carvings on the padded arms. This lovely antique bonnetiere, made of solid oak of varying tones and textures, was carved and constructed in 18th century France, circa 1750. This wonderful cabinet features a single tall door that closes before its interior. The door is decorated with shaped deeply carved panels hung on long steel barrel hinges, and it has a working lock that is controlled with its single key. The interior has five adjustable shelves and a small middle drawer with three partitions. The interior is lined with honey colored contact paper in a set Provencal pattern featuring red accent flowers, most likely installed in the last 30 – 40 years, in good condition. A pair of silver plated French candelabras made into bouillotte lamps with new black metal shades. Bouillotte is a card game that became popular in France during the 18th & 19th centuries. For light, they would use a bouillotte lamp. These silver plated lamps are beautiful showcasing a well patinated finish with touches of verdi gris. They also feature repeating neoclassical patterns, les perles, and 4 candelabra arms with faux wax candle covers. In the past as bouillotte candles would burn down one would use a key, where the shade connects the middle shaft, to lower the shade as the candles went down to allow the players to be free of glare. Recently rewired by a professional for the US using UL listed parts.

A gorgeous and massive French 19th century carved and painted gilt frame with new mirror plate. This hand-carved frame which once housed a large painting has now been repurposed into a fabulous Neoclassical style gilt mirror. Its beautiful details include wonderfully carved acanthus leaf corners and a deep reeded frame with thick inner trim and molded edges. A smooth space in the bottom center holds a plaque engraved with “JEAN D’ESPOUY” in all caps which signifies that the frame held work by artist Jean d’Espouy (1891-1921), a known French painter and watercolorist who exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Francais starting in 1910. Seen in the background is the artist’s satchel and in the foreground the handle of his cane or umbrella. This painting incorporates a wonderful use of color paired with beautiful brushwork and interesting reflections in the glass. Set in the original hand-carved frame which displays the original gold gilt finish as well as some french red peeking through and gesso around the interior. The artist has marked the work with a large signature found in the top right corner. The canvas has been mended a few times on the back and a small notch is visible on the front surface.
