French Late 19th Century Framed Aquatint Print

An extraordinary French 19th century framed aquatint (print) of a rider on horseback crossing a stone bridge toward a small homestead in the distance, past the treeline along the shore. It is a moody, melancholy scene shrouded in the dim light of early morning reflected by the stillness of the water. Above, thick clouds appear to yield to the breaking dawn which reveal the blue skies above. The composition and techniques draw comparison to the Impressionist mannerisms of the famous French artist Alexandre Louise Jacob however the stamp of authenticity from the printing house, Cercle de la Librairie in Paris, would place this much earlier. Indistinct signature and title in pencil on the bottom margin. Matting includes a “French line” pinstriping to complement the aqueous translucency of the color palette; framed under glass in a stunning acanthus-motif molding of gold gilt with exposed red bole. French 19th century hand-colored lithograph print of two young ladies from the important firm of Madame Pottin in Nantes. The image is tinted a pastel pink, almost peach, which suits the youthful innocence of the subjects (perhaps sisters or best friends, judging by their embrace) one of whom is differentiated by a blue dress and both figures are highlighted with streaks of white across the folds of fabric. The rectangular image appears through a stepped window of rounded corners cut from ivory matting traced in gold fillet and “French line” handpainted on the mat to accentuate the curvature. Set within a gilded frame of similar age and condition–ready to hang in your interior. Original sticker from “Mme. Pottin” visible on the reverse. French 19th Century Framed Seaside Lithograph

French 19th century framed lithograph print of a seaside fort at some unknown locale, simply titled Chateau fort sur le bord de la mer, translating to a “castle on the seaside.” Rendered in a monochromatic grayscale, the scene is dominated by a large tower in the background, rising above stone walls protecting the compound from the sea–as well as two cannons ready to fire–with a schooner raising its sails for departure. In the foreground, the corner of another seawall offers shelter to a dinghy tied up, with several figures on the narrow ledge taking in the action. Note that the paper is foxed and creased down the center, enclosed by a gorgeous gilt picture frame of similar age and condition that shows multiple areas of loss–please view the detailed images to see more.
