A 19th century French farmhouse table, whose robust design is a practical solution for the modern kitchen to pivot between dining and preparation. The beech wood top is 2 ½” thick, already well-patinated so one need not worry about the quality of their knife skills. A single drawer in the apron which spans the full depth has the unusual but helpful feature of easily gliding forward and back to access the contents from either side. Projecting from the apron of the table on each short side are wooden pegs that could be gently used or appreciated as a unique decorative element. Thick, oak legs braced with an H-form stretcher support the mass of the table, which could be slightly raised to a more comfortable height as an island. This unique work table has been cleaned and polished with a French paste wax to preserve and protect every feature. A unique farm table with origins in 19th century France, adapted in the 20th century with a new white marble top on the original oak frame. At just over six-feet long, the scale is perfect to host intimate gatherings of family & friends or everyday meals. The top surface of antique honed white marble has a smooth texture that is inviting to the touch, animated by thin ribbons of gray veining and finished to rounded corners. Patina is light with spots or streaks of tan discoloration after decades of use. Two pairs of square, muscular legs support the scale of the table joined by stretchers across the length and width–all stained an attractive shade of chestnut. Distance between the legs is approximately 66” to fit three chairs per side comfortably (or a single bench) with the possibility of a chair on each end. The proportions and quality craftsmanship of the table could easily adapt to a multitude of uses around the home, even to a retail or business environment as a display fixture. As well, the table could easily be lifted and adapted into a kitchen island or work table. This substantial 19th century English work table has a thick 1 ¾” thick pine top and would make a gorgeous kitchen island or casual dining table. Crafted from solid pine and oak, it remains incredibly sturdy and level, with marks in the top from repetitive use as a work surface in some domestic or artistic capacity. The apron contains two drawers; one on the front and the other at the opposite end. The drawer housed in the front is divided into three sections for easy organization. Both drawers have large rectangular pulls, carved from the same wood as the drawer fronts to blend seamlessly.
