  • French Vintage Cast Iron & Wood Top Work Table

    A vintage French industrial work table/kitchen island from the early 20th century, whose robust design is a practical solution for the modern kitchen to prep and cook with confidence. The painted wood top is 1 ⅜” thick, its blue-black pigment already well-patinated to reveal some of the light wood grain underneath. Such a generous surface area is adaptable to many uses in the kitchen, creative studio, or shop. Straight, square cast iron legs currently in a powder blue finish of similar patina are joined by a more decorative stretcher across the width and plain bars to make a stable “H” form. If considering adding counter stools, the distance between the legs is 44 ½”. Gently cleaned and polished with a French paste wax to preserve the historic character.     A 19th century French farmhouse table, whose robust design is a practical solution for the modern kitchen to pivot between dining and preparation. The beech wood top is 2 ½” thick, already well-patinated so one need not worry about the quality of their knife skills. A single drawer in the apron which spans the full depth has the unusual but helpful feature of easily gliding forward and back to access the contents from either side. Projecting from the apron of the table on each short side are wooden pegs that could be gently used or appreciated as a unique decorative element. Thick, oak legs braced with an H-form stretcher support the mass of the table, which could be slightly raised to a more comfortable height as an island. This unique work table has been cleaned and polished with a French paste wax to preserve and protect every feature.     English 19th century farmhouse (dining) table, recently adapted for use as a coffee table to recontextualize the familiarity of a rustic farm table, placing that sense of warmth & welcome in a living area. Handmade from pine and beech, the planks of the top have been scrubbed smooth to reveal pale yellow grain in gentle patterns and texture. The frame is stained in a medium-brown walnut tone for slight contrast, dotted with the heads of square peg joinery that confirms the age. Within the apron is a rather wide drawer for convenient but out of sight storage, opened by a small turned knob. The beech wood planks of the top surface are arranged like a breadboard with smooth, lightly patinated texture and golden-brown color. Note the series of “honest” repairs as geometric patches adding another layer of visual interest. To the right side one finds a deep drawer to organize kitchen gadgets and utensils or whatever one might need around the home or creative studio. Two pairs of square, muscular legs support the scale of the table joined by stretchers across the short sides all painted a vibrant and energizing shade of green. The top planks–made of only two parallel boards–have been shaped to rounded corners and exhibit a weathered softness revealing original saw marks and generations of patina that feels inviting to the touch. Built to host an abundance of food and guests (ideal for 10 people), a total of six turned legs distribute the weight of the table with a leg at each corner and two thoughtfully positioned in the center.     A monumental 19th century French oak dining table with unique, architectural elements in the trestle base. Impossibly heavy, the top planks are nearly 3” thick, old-growth wood including dense grain patterns and knots, all assembled with square peg joinery keeping with the organic texture. The linear boards are capped on the short ends by perpendicular planks in breadboard formation. Typical of refectory type tables, the supporting legs (two per end) are deep and wide for an interesting profile from every angle, including the massive feet on the floor. A large stretcher (51 ⅝” long) spans the distance in between the legs that will comfortably fit two dining chairs on each side. The simple wooden top sits over a pair of hand-cut and painted trestle base legs, each resting on a plinth base and connected by a stretcher. The top is secured to the base with six forged iron screws and disassembles for easier travel and storage. Cleaned and gently waxed, ready for your interior.
