  • French 19th Century Forged Iron Andirons

    $995.00

    27.50"H x 11.50"W x 20.25"D

    Dimensions: 27 ½” H x 11 ½” W x 20 ¼” D

A sculptural pair of French 19th century cast iron fireplace andirons, or chenets, that hold as much fascination as the roaring fire behind them. Stylistically they fall between the brutalism of Gothic Revival and creative expression of Art Nouveau: square “baskets” at the top of each pillar for warming emanate from thick rods equipped with scrolling spit hooks and a half-moon ornament of hammered texture that may also be functional and not simply decorative. In between the bowed front legs is a ribbon of steel pinched to whimsical arches to complement the curvaceous designs elsewhere. The hand-forged rod creating the back leg is how the burning logs are elevated; naturally the pair have developed a reddish-brown patina from oxidation of the iron and more than a century of exposure to high heat. Please view the detailed images to see more. Sold as a pair.

  • French 18th Century Forged Iron Andirons

    $2,200.00

    35.13"H x 14"W x 26"D

    Dimensions: 35 ⅛” H x 14” W x 26” D

A towering pair of 18th century French forged, wrought iron andiron-chenets to watch over the hearth. They include a small basket at the top for warming, the rim impressed with a geometric pattern that is repeated on the column and contrasted by the twisted detail of the rods. Scrolled elements curl outward from the pillars attaching multiple spit hooks to adjust for cooking temperatures. Decorative scrollwork in between the arched legs are reminiscent of fleur-de-lis to underscore the French-made origins of these sculptural fireplace tools. Designed as a complementary pair, each andiron is the mirror image of the other with an offset hind leg (the bracket to elevate the burning logs) supported by a spike. Note that the stylized dragon heads remain intact but one of the rings is missing from the left. Please view the detailed images to see more. Sold as a pair.

  • French 19th Century Gothic Revival Andirons

    Dimensions: 22 ¼” H x 9 ¾” W x 18 ½” D

A sculptural pair of French 19th century cast iron fireplace andirons–or chenets–guardians of the hearth who draw as much attention as the roaring fire behind them. Stylistically they reference Gothic Revival and Art Nouveau verging on Deco: the stylized face of a lady at the top of each reeded pillar soars upward from cartouches decorated with scrolling motifs forming the junction of the three legs (an arch at the front and the log riser on the back). The pair reflect a reddish-brown patina from oxidation of the iron and centuries of exposure to high heat. Please view the detailed images to see more. Sold as a pair.

  • 19th Century Bamboo & Decoupage Fireplace Screen

    $1,200.00

    49.63"H x 31.38"W x 14"D

    Dimensions: 49 ⅝” H x 31 ⅜” W x 14” D

A French fireplace screen, made circa 1890 of bamboo, recently updated in England with ebonized (painted) finish and decoupaged horticultural theme of hyacinth, butterflies, and dragonflies. Screens like this were intended to prevent coals, embers and sparks from escaping the fireplace, while keeping clothing, pets and small children out. In warmer months, when the fireplace is not in use, a firescreen will add interest and obscure the empty fireplace from sight. We think this screen could be equally interesting as a clothing valet in the bedroom. Original manufacturing tag from Perret & Vibert of Paris, “House of Bamboo”, affixed to the frame. Be sure to view all the images for a closer look at this wonderful antique.

  • English 19th Century Hand-Forged Iron Trivet

    $1,100.00

It has two straight legs in the back and one cabriole leg in the front. Stretchers connect the legs and it forms an open shelf to place another hot pot. • Large French Copper Pot with Iron Hanging Handle

    $695.00

    14"H x "W x 25.5"D

    Dimensions: 14″ H x 25 1/2″ D

A massive antique copper pot, made with a forged iron hanging handle. The handles have 7-⅝” extensions that would be used to suspend the metal pot over a heat source, often an open flame. The exterior has become blackened and weathered from use. Given few people have fireplaces large enough to accommodate such a massive vessel, today, the pot could be used just outside the fireplace as a stylish place to store firewood and/or kindling. Its aged finish will only improve with time and with each log tossed in. So many applications can be found for this unique and unusual antique copper pot.

A striking pair of large-scale French 18th century Louis XIV brass andirons. Crowned with flickering flame finials, these larger than life andirons are not only bold and commanding, but beautiful and majestic. A nearly 250-year life span has imparted a rubbed patina that is as brilliant and as lustrous as ever. Scrolled brass feet add to the nobility of this handsome pair. Unnoticeable when viewed from the front, the backside of one andiron does have a minor blemish, circa 1770.
