French 19th Century Empire Bedside Table

A handsome mahogany French Empire bedside table from the 19th century. This stunning side table has a captivating top, a small piece of St. Anne marble, which is in wonderful antique condition. Large ebonized diamond details can be found on the sides and drawer-front, ornamenting the antique with geometric motifs, a la the Directoire style as well. A drawer is housed within the apron and can be accessed using its stylized brass ring pulls on either side of an ebonized panel. The front corners of the case are carved to 45-degrees, continuing the geometric motif of the sides, whereas the angular rosettes on the back corners underscore the organic, textural variety seen throughout the materials. Four turned legs lift the top and are joined below at the shaped shelf lifted by thoughtfully turned feet. Circa 1830. On top, the Languedoc red marble is a rich cinnamon color with vibrant flashes of white throughout and a sloping, finished edge to be comfortable and inviting. The base is made of solid birch with beautiful curling present that shows movement in natural lighting. The apron is shaped by little swells along the length, in a simple design reminiscent of the table’s cabriole legs. In the apron are two shallow drawers: perfect for storing pens, paper, and other writing implements. The cabriole legs are slender and graceful, their shapely figure terminating in carved hoof feet.
