A petite, music-themed giltwood mirror from France, 18th century. Topping the slender piece is carved ornamentation of a dainty satin ribbon draped over a violin, flanked by delightful scrolled rosettes. Patinated gilt has left a soft glow over the dark wood underneath. Multiple rows of various carving techniques draw the eye into the original plate which exhibits the foxing so desirable of antique mercury glass. At the base, two small feet elevate and protect the elegantly styled molding, mounted on a gray painted wood back panel. The mirror is strung with wire, ready to hang in your interior. A French 19th century Louis Philippe mirror with an understated, gold gilt frame enhanced by dark oxidation and craquelure texture. Etched into the frame is a fluted pattern interrupted by a few cracks and areas of wear which give authentic patina to the design. This gorgeous mirror will be right at home in many decorating tastes and rooms. The mirror plate appears to be original and is lightly foxed producing a thin veil of fog across the glass. A stunning French 19th century gold gilt mirror with impressive carving techniques to illustrate the frame in foliate motifs. Resembling an Italianate style popular in the 18th century, each corner projects slightly outward from the rectangular shape, making room for delicate scrolling designs and leafy patterns to appear in subtle contrast to the matte gilt with craquelure patina. Surrounding the oval mirror plate is a thick border that is an amalgamation of several molding techniques: a cable twist, laurel leaves, foliate/acanthus, and beaded texture on the interior. Shown in vertical orientation, the frame could be mounted in either direction. One small, dark spot of foxing in the glass but no other evidence to confirm that it’s original to the piece. This French Empire mirror (c. 1800) is symmetrical to hang in either direction, exhibiting low-relief floral decorations that leave ample space for the gilt molding to reveal its red bole underneath the gold–adding warmth and texture to the rectilinear design. The molding is largely plain and smooth, with rococo theme garlands of botanical and scallop shell motif stationed at the corners and midpoints along the perimeter. 19th century French gilt wood starburst mirror in alternating rays of flames and lightning bolts that radiates a kind of energy and dynamism to stand on its own or stand out in a gallery wall. Arranged in three distinct themes, the sharpness of the jagged rays is complemented by little red bole swirls toward the mirror plate that amplifies the tactile warmth of patinated gold gilt. A smooth corona surrounds the (flat) mirror plate at center, dusted with a thin layer of foxing that confirms its original condition. A grand, 19th century French mirror of the Louis XVI taste, with incredible giltwood carvings over the green-painted back panel. At the top of the piece, foliate carvings of grape vines and laurel encircle a pair of lovebirds and a burning torch; the botanical theme carried down to the upper edges of the frame to soften the geometric rigidity of the pane. The mirror plate appears to be a modern replacement, the glass protected by a low, beaded chapelet (rosary) trim. At the lower corners are ornately carved feet, to lift and protect the delicate work. A stunning 19th century French gold gilt mirror of thick egg & dart molding around the original glass. The frame is of impressive scale, with bold definition between the smoothness of the protruding eggs and the linear patterns outlining them, enhanced by deep red bole underneath. Foxing in the original mirror glass appears as a faint haze with overall clarity in the reflection. Displayed in vertical orientation, the frame is symmetrical to mount in either direction. A French giltwood mirror in the Louis XVI style, circa 1790, with incredible, carved motifs set off by the deep green painted backpanel. Flowing from the top of the piece, ribbons cascade down to the upper edges of the frame around two cornucopia flanking the cartouche in the middle, suggesting abundance even in small proportions. The original mirror plate is surrounded by a low, dentil molding and finished at the lower corners by ornate carvings, which transition into little ebonized feet to lift and protect the delicate work. Fabulous pair of French reproduction (circa 2000) round gilt mirrors in the style of Louis Philippe. At roughly 39” diameter, they will make an impact in any room, as a pair or hung separately. The thick wood molding is carved to eye catching rings of varying depths, the center of which surrounding the mirror plate is lightly etched with floral & foliate illustrations enhanced by traces of red bole. This large English convex mirror exudes elegance and style. The thick, gilded outer frame is enhanced by sumptuous carvings of acanthus, stationed at the four cardinal points, the pairs of unfurling leaves stretching in opposite directions. Separating the outer molding from the glass is a ring of ebonized, reeded molding. The original mirror plate exhibits a veil of foxing and crystals.
