Below the drawers are three paneled doors representing two cabinets: the (locking) left door is one compartment, whereas the center door and right door share a lock to enclose the wider of the compartments. One key included to share between the two locks. The right-side shelf is 18 ¼” deep and the left side is 15 ⅝” deep. Here is a substantial piece to anchor any room, at just shy of nine feet long and more than three feet tall. Transitional in style, it favors clean lines to allow the rich wood tones and handsome grain patterns to speak for themselves. A row of three shallow drawers fits discreetly in the frieze below the plank top: one wide drawer at the center and one on each side, all using incredible forged iron handles. The top surface is a thick slab of unusual pink and gray marble shaped to turreted front corners and a slight flange at the back. Making up the body of the piece are three spacious drawers outlined in brass trim that glide easily using brass bail pulls; one key is present to share between the locking drawers. The drawers are of excellent proportion to offer elegant storage for clothes, linens, or other household essentials. Fluting on the turreted corners of flows into turned, tapering legs lifting the case from the floor–also ringed in brass. Italian 19th Century Inlay Commode

An extraordinary Italian walnut commode from the 19th century, Neoclassical in style, decorated with a graphic marquetry of dark/light woods that creates movement and definition over the exterior. The surface uses two, beautiful planks shaped to chamfered corners and outlined around the edges with a sawtooth pattern of inlay in contrasting light/dark tones. A case of five drawers includes two small drawers in the top row over three wider drawers all inlaid with a geometric design of elongated checkerboard strips of alternating blonde and dark woods. Each drawer opens by ring pull hardware; note the escutcheons are only decorative without an original key present. Chamfered front corners are inlaid with a very narrow triangle rising from the feet to end in a little diamond perhaps suggesting a candle or symbolizing an eternal flame. The side panels have inlaid designs complementary to those on the drawer fronts so from every perspective one can admire the visionary intentions of the maker even two centuries later. French 18th Century Solid Walnut Armoire

A French carved, solid walnut armoire built in the Louis XV period. A Chapeau de Gendarme cornice tops the body of the armoire. Two solid walnut doors have shapely carved panels creating a gorgeous façade with style-matching, recessed panels. The carvings on the exterior include a fleur de lis, star, and shell motifs, typical of rococo decoration. The doors are hung on large steel barrel hinges with long pierced steel escutcheon plates and open to a massive storage space with four fixed shelves measuring 17” deep. The sinuous lines of the scalloped apron continue to the antique’s carved escargot feet in classic Louis XV-style. A single key is present.
