French 19th Century Iron Railing Console
$3,600.0036.50"H x 54"W x 12"D
Dimensions: 36 ½” H x 54” W x 12” D
French 19th century cast iron balcony railing, repurposed as a stunning console table. On top is a narrow slab of (new) blue-green stone animated by painterly veining in dense accumulations of fine ripples, surrounding a few patches of white. The repetition of the parallel rods on the table base are interrupted by sculptural, if not symbolic iron bars that have been curled and twisted to resemble shepherds’ hooks. At the center of the frieze–lining up with the pyramidal design on the front–is a face with a corona of radiating waves referencing the Sun King (Louis XIV) but could pass for a Medusa emblem as well. Patina of red oxidation of the iron blends with the traces of vibrant Kelly green paint giving the metal wonderful organic and tactile qualities to harmonize with any indoor-outdoor living environment. French 18th Century Louis XVI Style Inlay Mahogany Commode
$9,800.0032.50"H x 51.38"W x 24.25"D
Dimensions: 32 ½” H x 51 ⅜” W x 24 ¼” D
An extraordinary French mahogany commode from the 18th century, Louis XVI Period, decorated with an impressive marquetry technique that creates movement and definition over the drawer fronts and side panels. The commode retains its original slab of gray marble, the surface animated by frenetic white veining, and shaped to turreted front corners. Across the top row are three drawers of geometric marquetry designs to outline them–like two rows of twisting ribbon–in alternating blonde and dark woods. Brass bail pulls operate the left and right drawers while the middle drawer requires the key to function as a pull (lock is intact but does not turn). The two wide drawers across the center and below, follow the rhythm as above with three distinct rectangular “frames” around the drawer hardware, in graphic marquetry of dark/light woods that have been hand-decorated in wispy patterns of red pigment suggesting plumes or waves–adding depth and regal grandeur to this already fine example of the woodworker’s craft. The side panels have complementary inlaid designs, themes which are replicated down the turrets (using marquetry to imply fluted recesses) moving into the conical feet so from every perspective one can admire the visionary intentions of the maker even two centuries later. Cleaned and polished with a French paste wax, this commode is ready to be enjoyed in your interior. Be sure to view the detailed images to see the current condition as the right side panel appears to have been repaired.
French 19th Century Solid Oak Buffet à Deux Corps
$5,600.0099.75"H x 57.75"W x 24.75"D
Dimensions: 99 ¾” H x 57 ¾” W x 24 ¾” D
A French solid oak buffet à deux corps from the 19th century, Louis XV in style, with baroque carvings to add depth to the paneled doors, and serpentine apron that together give this large storage piece its historic character. Under the linear crown is a stylized garland carved into the frieze over a pair of doors that mirror each other’s calligraphic outline around the paneling. Each door hangs on steel barrel hinges to support the weight, and use scrolling hardware that coordinates beautifully with the vine and foliate motifs elsewhere. The doors open by working lock and (massive) key to reveal an interior that has been crudely tacked with the most charming floral printed cotton in bold red & white. Three shelves range in depth from 13 ¼”-14 ¾”. In the lower cabinet–protruding forward beyond the upper body–past a working lock and key is an interior fitted with a single shelf, 18 ⅜” deep. The same textile has been used to dress the back of the cabinet as well–see the image gallery for the immersive effect this has when all the doors are open! The sinuous lines of the swelled apron transition into carved escargot feet, another signature of the Louis XV taste for refined, yet playful touches. From its graceful curves to robust proportions and charming patina, this Louis XV armoire will bring a comforting presence to any home. It has been cleaned, tightened, and polished with a French paste wax to be ready for your interior. Please view the detailed images to see more and the current condition. Two keys included.

Balancing the top is a sculptural pedestal base in an hourglass silhouette, cleaved in the center to form a narrow void and flaring out at the floor in a rectangle for stability. The excitement of the fossilized inclusions makes this table a unique conversation piece for guests to admire while dining, that may also ground the room when used as a center table. French 19th Century Empire Painted Commode
$5,200.0033.88"H x 42.25"W x 20.75"D
Dimensions: 33 ⅞” H x 42 ¼” W x 20 ¾” D
A French Empire three-drawer commode from the 19th century with its original marble top. A more recent artistic update by a Caribbean-blue painted finish complements the gilt bronze accents, for exciting contrasts in textures and tones. The top surface of dark, nearly black stone is dotted with the fossilized remains of ancient marine animals, among the curious patterns of marbleization. Note that the stone displays the expected patina of scratches and other signs of the commode’s historic age so please view the image gallery for more details. A pair of gilt bronze caryatid busts top the inverted pilasters which flank the stack of three, wide drawers that open by brass lion ring pulls. Escutcheons on each drawer front are purely decorative, no key is present, but their ornate wing motifs underscore the mythical and fantastic inspiration the Empire taste is known for. Contrasting slate blue paint has been applied as a decorative border around the drawer hardware and defines the pilasters further, which draws the eye downward to the wonderful paw feet at the floor. The matte paint remains mostly smooth with some areas of mottled craquelure. Cleaned and tightened, this antique is ready for your interior. Dimensions: 39 ¾” H x 66 ¾” W x 25” D
A statement piece for a dining room or foyer, this 19th century Louis XVI style enfilade demonstrates refined taste and luxury in any scenario. Dimensions: 34 ½” H x 75 ½” W x 30 ½” D
A fantastic industrial workbench from France, early to mid-20th century, assembled from a heavy steel case with a thick wood top surface that would allow this piece to become a unique kitchen island infused with authenticity for the modern interior. Dimensions: 29 ¾” H x 77 ¼” W x 31 ½” D
A unique farm table with origins in 19th century France, adapted in the 20th century with a new white marble top on the original oak frame. At just over six-feet long, the scale is perfect to host intimate gatherings of family & friends or everyday meals. The top surface of antique honed white marble has a smooth texture that is inviting to the touch, animated by thin ribbons of gray veining and finished to rounded corners. Patina is light with spots or streaks of tan discoloration after decades of use. Two pairs of square, muscular legs support the scale of the table joined by stretchers across the length and width–all stained an attractive shade of chestnut. Distance between the legs is approximately 66” to fit three chairs per side comfortably (or a single bench) with the possibility of a chair on each end. The proportions and quality craftsmanship of the table could easily adapt to a multitude of uses around the home, even to a retail or business environment as a display fixture. As well, the table could easily be lifted and adapted into a kitchen island or work table. Cleaned, tightened, and polished with a French paste wax this antique farm table is ready to join your interior. Please view the detailed images to see the current condition.
