A French 19th century Louis Philippe mirror with an understated, gold gilt frame enhanced by dark oxidation and craquelure texture. Etched into the frame is a fluted pattern interrupted by a few cracks and areas of wear which give authentic patina to the design. Note that the mirror plate appears to be original and is lightly spotted with random foxing in the glass. This gorgeous mirror will be right at home in many decorating tastes. This French Empire mirror (c. 1800) is symmetrical to hang in either direction, exhibiting low-relief floral decorations that leave ample space for the gilt molding to reveal its red bole underneath the gold–adding warmth and texture to the rectilinear design. The molding is largely plain and smooth, with rococo theme garlands of botanical and scallop shell motif stationed at the corners and midpoints along the perimeter. Wide, reeded molding around this 19th century French gilt wall mirror is an ideal surface area to reflect the lustre of gold leaf, now patinated with a fine craquelure texture. Symmetrical for mounting in either direction, the rectangular mirror would look sharp in any room; original mirror glass exhibits a fine haze of foxing, drawing the viewer in for a closer look. A grand, 19th century French mirror of the Louis XVI taste, with incredible giltwood carvings over the green-painted back panel. At the top of the piece, foliate carvings of grape vines and laurel encircle a pair of lovebirds and a burning torch; the botanical theme carried down to the upper edges of the frame to soften the geometric rigidity of the pane. The mirror plate appears to be a modern replacement, the glass protected by a low, beaded chapelet (rosary) trim. At the lower corners are ornately carved feet, to lift and protect the delicate work. A magnificent 19th century French giltwood tabernacle style mirror in the Louis XVI taste, the exquisite Neoclassical carvings around the (dark green) painted frame appear even more theatrical under a layer of gold. At the top of the piece is an anthemion design rising out of a fountain from which two swans drink. Their feathers spread toward the edges of the frame morphing into glorious scrolls. The frame takes an architectural quality with two wide columns on either side–of the Corinthian order–with capitals of implied foliate decoration matching the garland at the middle, and terminating with a kind of gadroon texture on the column bases. Mirror plate is likely a more recent replacement, the glass shows no foxing and crystals are absent; it is surrounded by low-relief carved gilt moulding outlined in a dark green painted molding. A dramatic and theatrical late 19th Century carved and gilt frame, made in Glasgow, Scotland by picture framers Menzies & Son according to the original label affixed to the back. Note the original painting has been replaced by new mirror glass. This amazing frame, at first glance, appears to be inspired by French rococo, with thick, scrolling foliate and shell motifs wrapping the edges against a reticulated background that plays on a sense of depth and texture. The artistry in this piece is reflective of a flourishing creative environment during the period known as the Glasgow School, a regional style parallel to Art Nouveau. Displayed in vertical orientation, the frame is symmetrical to hang in either direction. Mirror plate is a more recent addition. A French giltwood mirror in the Louis XVI style, circa 1790, with incredible, carved motifs set off by the deep green painted backpanel. Flowing from the top of the piece, ribbons cascade down to the upper edges of the frame around two cornucopia flanking the cartouche in the middle, suggesting abundance even in small proportions. The original mirror plate is surrounded by a low, dentil molding and finished at the lower corners by ornate carvings, which transition into little ebonized feet to lift and protect the delicate work.
