Dimensions: 26 ⅜” H x 18 ⅜” W x 2 ¼” D
Fabulous Neoclassical inspired trumeau mirror from 19th century France with stylized motifs in parcel gilt. In the center of the frieze are two gilded, cherub-like figures wearing only swags of carefully draped fabric flanking a pedestal that lifts what appears to be an accumulation of flowers. Note that the character to the right side has lost its face and the void is filled with paint in an attempt to obscure that fact. The pair are flanked by lyres and vertically oriented laurel branches emanating from the top of the fluted columns to the left and right of the original mirror glass like a tabernacle-style mirror. The wood backing has been painted a dusky shade of blue–almost Prussian–that makes a nice complement to the gilt and the dark haze of foxing across the reflection. A line of foliate decoration extends across the bottom edge of the frame in between the two protective feet. Please view the detailed images to see more of this exciting trumeau mirror.

Surrounding the oval mirror plate is a thick border that is an amalgamation of several molding techniques: a cable twist, laurel leaves, foliate/acanthus, and beaded texture on the interior. Shown in vertical orientation, the frame could be mounted in either direction. One small, dark spot of foxing in the glass but no other evidence to confirm that it’s original to the piece. A grand, 19th century French mirror of the Louis XVI taste, with incredible giltwood carvings over the green-painted back panel. At the top of the piece, foliate carvings of grape vines and laurel encircle a pair of lovebirds and a burning torch; the botanical theme carried down to the upper edges of the frame to soften the geometric rigidity of the pane. French 19th Century Large Cushion Mirror
$9,600.0064"H x 40.50"W x 4.50"D
Dimensions: 64” H x 40 ½” W x 4 ½” D
An extraordinary cushion mirror from 19th century France, the reflective qualities are secondary to the artistry seen in the gilded, repoussé metal decoration cascading from the pediment on top to surround the glass on every plane. In the crown are high-relief representations of botanical themes and a few military references like flags, arrows, and drums à la Louis XVI. The rectangular mirror at center projects outward from the frame, dazzling with crystals along the bottom edge which calls attention to the hand-cut bevel around the perimeter. Moving outward from the center, a border of the cushioned metal is edged in a ebonized wood molding of reeded texture that is repeated toward the outer border of mirrored panels ornamented with elaborate corners and stations in between. The mirror plates are original, exhibiting varying degrees of foxing and a thin haze of oxidation. Please note there are some areas of loss to the metal and general patina, view the detailed images to see the current condition and remarkable craft within this cushion mirror.

$2,300.0035.25"H x 22.13"W x 1.63"D
Dimensions: 35 ¼” H x 22 ⅛” W x 1 ⅝” D
A magnificent 19th century French giltwood tabernacle style mirror in the Louis XVI taste, the exquisite Neoclassical carvings around the (dark green) painted frame appear even more theatrical under a layer of gold. At the top of the piece is an anthemion design rising out of a fountain from which two swans drink. Their feathers spread toward the edges of the frame morphing into glorious scrolls. The frame takes an architectural quality with two wide columns on either side–of the Corinthian order–with capitals of implied foliate decoration matching the garland at the middle, and terminating with a kind of gadroon texture on the column bases. Mirror plate is likely a more recent replacement, the glass shows no foxing and crystals are absent; it is surrounded by low-relief carved gilt moulding outlined in a dark green painted molding. $5,500.0046.75"H x 78.50"W x 1.63"D
Dimensions: 46 ¾” H x 78 ½” W x 1 ⅝” D
A cheerful piece of history and architecture, this enormous Louis Philippe style mirror dating to the late 19th century was originally part of the decor in a French bistro. Where the paint has chipped off to reveal the wood underneath one might notice a carved foliate pattern–typical of the Louis Philippe style–with other areas of patina that contribute to the overall artistic flair of the mirror. The original mirror plate is speckled with several constellations of foxing and dark oxidation that unifies the overall effect to make an eyecatching statement in any interior. French Mirrors
French mirrors come in many shapes and sizes, including rectangular and oval. Generally, this type of mirror has a simplistic, geometric design, which gives it a more modern appearance than its English counterpart. If you want a French mirror with a classically antique appearance, consider a painted trumeau or a Rococo-style frame.
Rococo Mirrors
Rococo mirrors typically have dramatic designs featuring representations of ribbons, leaves, feathers, and other delicate elements. The frames of these mirrors have visual depth with several layers, along with metallic finishes or dark colors. This type of mirror may work in your home if you like exuberant designs or if you want to add personality to a room.
Regency Mirrors
Regency mirrors typically have an oval or rectangular shape with a slim frame, columns, and cornices as design features. This type of mirror dates back to the 1800s, and it was popular among the English for the first part of the 19th century. These mirrors are typically a dresser component.
Gothic
The design of gothic mirrors generally represents that of a church. This type of mirror was popular from the 12th to 16th centuries, and again during the Victorian era. Design features of this mirror include a walnut or oak construction, pointed top arches, and ornate carvings.
